The ongoing 10th World Assembly of Religions for Peace has elected three religious leaders from Nigeria into her council.
The Sultan of Sokoto and President, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, was elected co-moderator of the organisation technically replacing the Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Cardinal John Onaiyekan, who had been a founding co-moderator of the council.
President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev. Samson Ayokunle and Onaiyekan are now honorary Presidents of the council while Sister Agatha Chikelue was also elected as woman representative of Women of Faith into the council.
Disclosing this in a statement from Lindau, Germany, on Thursday, the Director, Legal and Public Affairs, CAN, Samuel Kwamkur, explained that the council also confirmed Prof. Azza Karam, an erudite scholar and United Nations official as the new Secretary-General of the organisation. Read more
