The Supreme Court on Friday ordered Governor Rochas Okorocha and the Imo State Government to pay N1bn to E. F. Network Nigeria Limited, which the state government owed the firm for almost 10 years.
The state government, during Governor Ihedi Ohakim’s administration, owed the firm a contract debt of N800m, which was part payment for the supply of refuse bags and plastic rolling containers in 2008.
The debt rose to N1bn when the High Court of Imo State, in its judgment delivered on February 11, 2014, said the state government violated the terms of the contract with the firm and awarded N200m as damages in the debt recovery suit filed by the firm and its promoter, Mr Gideon Egbuchulam.
The judgment of the High Court was affirmed in the verdict of the Court of Appeal, Owerri, delivered on July 4, 2016. Read more
