Suspected drug lord gets N100m bail in Lagos (Punch)
The Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday granted N100m bail to an alleged drug baron, Sulaimon Jimoh Olowoidiogede, for allegedly importing 704 kilogrammes of drug known as “Ghana Loud” from Ghana to Nigeria.
Justice Dehinde Dipeolu granted the bail with three sureties in like sum.
The court said two of the sureties must be serving directors in the Federal Government or Lagos State Government, while the third must be a blood relative with landed property within the court’s jurisdiction. Read more
Lagos teacher bags life jail for defiling eight-year-old pupil (Punch)
The Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court presided over by Justice Ramon Oshodi, on Monday, sentenced 23-year-old John Osifo to life imprisonment for defiling his eight-year-old student.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the defendant was initially arraigned on January 31, 2022, on a one-count of defilement to which he pleaded not guilty.
Osifo’s charge sheet read, “Statement of offence defilement of a child contrary to Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015. Read more
Police arrest man for beating wife to death in Lagos (Punch)
A Lagos-based man identified as Sunday has been taken into custody by the state Police Command for allegedly beating his wife, Habibat Bakare, to death in the Ipaja area of the state.
PUNCH Metro gathered in a telephone conversation with the victim’s brother, Lookman Bakare, on Monday, that the incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday.
According to Bakare, the victim had suffered domestic violence from her husband on several occasions before she eventually succumbed to death. Read more
LAGESC arrests 51 street traders, miscreants in Lagos raid (Punch)
No fewer than 51 street traders and miscreants were arrested during a clearance operation on Tuesday night by the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps.
This was disclosed in a statement on Wednesday, by the state Commissioner for the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab.
Wahab noted that the clearance operation in Mosley Street, Alexander Street, Ikoyi, and surrounding areas was in a bid to maintain law and order in the state.
Two bizmen remanded for alleged N56m medical supplement fraud (Punch)
An Ikeja Special Offences Court on Monday remanded two business people, Jennifer Ezeagu and Goodnews Amah, at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly obtaining the sum of N56,350,000 under the pretence of supplying medical supplements.
Justice Rahman Oshodi remanded them after they took their plea.
The defendants are facing five counts bordering on conspiracy, obtaining by false pretence, stealing and forgery preferred against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Read more
Police arrest phone thief caught on Lagos restaurant CCTV (Punch)
The Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command has arrested Ifeanyi Okonkwo, who was caught on Closed-Circuit Television stealing a phone at an eatery in Ikeja, Lagos State.
The RRS revealed this in a statement and accompanying video shared on X.com on Monday.
The statement read in part: “The suspect, Ifeanyi Okonkwo, on 7 November 2024, visited the restaurant to purchase food but ended up stealing a Samsung A15 mobile phone belonging to another customer. Read more
NDLEA seizes drugs hidden in equipment, warns travellers about suspicious parcel (Punch)
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has intercepted parcels of illicit drugs concealed within equipment in Lagos.
The agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, shared videos of the seized contraband on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday.
The NDLEA warned travellers to exercise caution when accepting luggage or items from others, as they may be unaware of the contents. Read more

Despite calls from Nigerians on X.com urging the Lagos State Police Command to investigate the whereabouts of six ladies allegedly missing after a house party in the Lekki area over the weekend, PUNCH Metro reports that no formal complaint has been filed at any police station in the state.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police for Area J Command (Elemoro), which oversees police divisions in Lekki and surrounding areas, Oluyemisi Ojo, disclosed this information to our correspondent on Thursday in response to an inquiry about the alleged missing ladies.

Ataga: Court orders Chidinma’s lawyer to open defence (Punch)
Justice Yetunde Adesanya of the Lagos State High Court sitting at the Tafawa Balewa Square, on Thursday, ordered Chidimma Ojukwu’s co-defendants to open their defence.
Ojukwu, charged with the murder of the Super TV Chief Executive Officer, Michael Usifo Ataga, alongside Adedapo Quadri and Chioma Egbuchu, are standing trial for Ataga’s murder.
She and Quadri are facing the first to eight counts bordering on conspiracy, murder, and stabbing while her sister, Egbuchu, is facing the ninth count of stealing an iPhone 7 belonging to the late Ataga. Read more
Couple jailed 16 years for N52m fraud in Lagos (Punch)
A Lagos State High sitting in Ikeja, on Wednesday, convicted and sentenced a couple, Harry Uyanwanne and Oluwakemi Odemuyiwa (a.k.a Kristein Uyanwanne) alongside Temple International Church.
Justice Mojisola Dada handed down the verdict after finding them guilty of the offences preferred against them.
The judge also ordered that the third defendant, (Temple International Church), should be deregistered and closed down for using the name of God and the church to defraud people. Read more
