When Tara Fela-Durotoye came on the Nigerian make-up scene in the late 1990s, it was not as organised as it now is. The doggedness and never-say-die attitude from one who has said that her life didn’t start as a bed of roses has helped take the industry to the lofty heights it enjoys today.
The make-up artist and lawyer started by launching the first bridal directory in 1999 then went ahead to set up an international standard make-up studio and established the first make-up school in the country. The founder and CEO of House of Tara International did all that in Lagos from where she has inspired a multibillion-naira industry.
In spite of dealing with the rigours having a family and running a business, her other achievements include the Tara Orekelewa Beauty range, Inspired Perfume, the H.I.P Beauty range and the 2014 Make-up in Nigeria Conference (MINC).
With several international awards and even a listing by Forbes magazine among 20 Young Power Women in Africa, Tara Fela-Durotoye is a Lagos Big Girl.
Bet you didn’t know that she never practised law for one day.
