A 10-year-old pupil identified simply as Rofiat lost her life after a car knocked her down on the premises of her school, Isiu Grammar School, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro gathered on Wednesday that the incident occurred on Friday, September 29.
Rofiat was said to have joined her friends on the school playground while preparing for the closing period. After a while, a vehicle parked by a teacher identified simply as Dele some meters away reportedly started to roll backwards towards her direction. Read more
Police confirm abduction of five female Katsina varsity students (Nation)
The Police in Katsina State yesterday confirmed the abduction of five students (all female) of the Federal University Dutsinma, (FUDMA) in Katsina State by gunmen.
Confirming the accident, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abubakar Aliyu, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), said suspected terrorists’ invaded “resident of the students” behind Mariamoh Ajiri Memorial School, Dutsinma.

Court declares monarchs owners of community land (Nation)
Lagos State High Court, Epe Division, has declared Oloja of Epe, Oba Kamoru Animashaun, and Awujale of Ijebu-land, Oba Sikiru Adetona as rightful owners of 1168.141 hectares (2886.534 acres) of Epe communal land.
It held that the land does not belong to the Iposu Chieftaincy Family.
The land includes Akesan and Papa, Santos family land, Lupotoro family land, Odofin Compound, Jubulu family land and Itemu River as contained in the Composite Plan No: ASC/050°/LA/2020 drawn by F. A. Ogunbadejo, dated August 10, 2020. Read more
Court martial declares Maj-Gen guilty of $1.476m theft (Vanguard)
A Special Court Martial set up by the Nigerian Army has found the former Group Managing Director and Executive Vice Chairman of Nigerian Army Properties Limited, Major General Umar Mohammed, guilty of 14 of 18 count charges, including stealing and other sundry offences, which are all contrary to service laws.
The charges brought against the General bother on stealing, forgery, conspiracy, theft, unauthorised diversion of Army property, among others.
In one of the charges on which he was found guilty, General Mohammed was alleged to have collected the sum of $1.045,400 paid by shipping companies for the use of Nigerian Army Jetty located at no 6 Marina, Victoria Island, Lagos. Read more

The PAC Foundation, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of Pan-African Capital Holdings, has conducted training for young entrepreneurs on financial advisory, creating a market for businesses, and finance management.
The three-day training, held recently in Lagos, included facilitators from digital marketing and business analysis, among others.

Police dismiss constable over rape of suspect in cell (DailyTrust)
The police in Benue State have dismissed one Belasa Iyangedue, a constable, for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl (name withheld) while she was in detention.
The state’s Commissioner of Police, Batholomew Onyeka, made the disclosure during a press conference in his office in Makurdi.

European Union Commissioner Jutta Urpilainen met with Ethiopian government officials during a visit Tuesday that included an announcement of $680 million in support from the EU.

More than 20 killed after Italian tourist bus crashes off Venice overpass (AlJazeera)
More than 20 people have been killed and 18 injured after a bus carrying foreign tourists crashed off an elevated overpass, plunged some 15 metres (50 feet) and caught fire near Venice in northern Italy, officials said.
The bus veered off the road on Tuesday evening at approximately 19:45pm local time (17:45 GMT), crashed through a barrier, plummeted onto electricity lines and caught fire, according to reports.
“An apocalyptic scene, there are no words,” Venice’s Mayor Luigi Brugnaro said in a post on social media. Read more
