There was tension in Temu, a community in the Ikosi-Ejinrin Local Council Development Area, Epe, Lagos State, on Wednesday, following the death of a 20-year-old student, Nureni Kekereowo.
The Senior Secondary School 3 student was said to have died on October 12 after he indicated that his friends, whom he identified as Daniel, 19, and Sunday, another teenager, allegedly used him for a ritual.
Nureni, before his death, reportedly said the two friends invited him over for food, adding that after he ate the meal, he slept off.
He reportedly claimed that he woke up with a calabash on his head. Read more
Rico Swavey: NMA calls for caution, partners LASG on investigation (Nation)
The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), has partnered Lagos State Government and relevant agencies to investigate the unethical filming of the late ex-Big Brother Naija housemate, Patrick Fakoya AKA Rico Swavey, at Doren Specialist Hospital.
NMA said this in a statement signed by Dr Benjamin Olowojebutu and Dr Ismail Ajibowo, the Chairman and Secretary of NMA Lagos Zone, on Monday in Lagos.
They said that the association was aware of media reports about the incident surrounding the death of Swavey and the alleged involvement of Doren Specialist Hospital, Ajah.

Estate developer decries Lagos govt disobedience to court order, threatens contempt proceedings (Vanguard)
An Estate Developer mogul, Akinfolabi Akindele, who is the attorney of Madam Iyalode Efunloye Tinubu, has threatened to commence contempt proceedings against the Lagos state government following its disobedience to a court order.
Akindele who made this known during a news conference in Lagos, expressed dismay over the action of the state government, noting that executive rascality should not be allowed in a democratic society.
He emphasized that the main suit relating to the controversial land is yet to be determined by the court and it’s in the interest of justice that the court issued status-quo antebellum.

Ogun: Students block MAPOLY’s gate, disrupt exams over ‘‘outrageous fees’’ (DailyTrust)
Students of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Monday, shut the school gate and disrupted the ongoing examination in protest against “outrageous fees.”
The aggrieved students in collaboration with the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ogun Axis, paralysed academic activities over increment of school and acceptance fees.
In their hundreds, the students as early as 6am on Monday barricaded the gates leading into the polytechnic, preventing entry and exit from the school.
They also disrupted the ongoing second semester examination from holding as other students coming for the exams met the entrance under lock and keys. Read more

Nigerian Breweries, on Monday, released the list of the top 10 finalists for this year’s edition of its annual Maltina Teacher of the Year Award competition.
The Corporate Affairs Director of the company, Sade Morgan, released the list to newsmen in Lagos.
A female teacher from Lagos State, Blessing Lydia Titiloye and a teacher from Oyo State, Olanrewaju Olubunmi Olayemi made the list that included Luga Cyprian Toryila (Benue State), Musa Saidu(Borno State), Ifeoma Stella(Enugu State).

IPOB to ESN: engage in pipeline security and risk expulsion (Nation)
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has warned members of its security outfit, Eastern Security Network (ESN) against involvement in the ongoing pipeline security recruitment process.
The group said involvement in such exercise, which it described as shameful and debilitating would attract automatic expulsion from the IPOB family.
In a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, IPOB maintained that guarding crude oil pipeline is not and will never be part of its core aims and objectives.

Following attacks on his supporters in Zamfara and Kaduna states, which led to the death of one, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Monday appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to call all political parties, to caution their supporters as 2023 campaigns intensify.
Disclosing this in a statement on his Twitter handle, Atiku condemned the attack noting that it was an attempt to scuttle the lawful right of Nigerians to assemble peacefully.
His words: “I have received reports of coordinated attacks on members of our great party, the PDP, by thugs in Zamfara State, which reportedly led to the death of one of our members. 40-year-old man conspires with friend to kill His 3 week-old child in Nasarawa (Independent)
The Nasarawa State Police Command of has arrested a man alongside his friend fo allegedly killing a toddler supposed to be his.
It was revealed in a statement by the Command’s spokesman, DSP Ramhan Nansel, that one Abdulkadir Ahmed conspired with his friend and lured his estranged wife to a location where they killed her baby.
The 40-year-old prime suspect was followed and arrested by police operatives who were immediately informed of the disturbing situation.
DSP Nansel revealed that Ahmed had committed the alleged crime on October 11 in Lafia, the state capital of Nasarawa. Read more
Amosun: Misrepresenting me won’t change my original intention (ThisDay)
A former Governor of Ogun State and Senator representing Ogun Central, Ibikunle Amosun,yesterday, reacted to the misrepresentation of his recent interview with the British Broadcasting Commission (BBC), Yoruba service, which alleged that he condemned the issuance of visas to Nigerians by foreign embassies, saying such deliberate misrepresentation of his words, had no bearing whatsoever on his intentions.
Some media reports, including the online portals, had claimed Amosun, in his BBC interview, condemned western nations for encouraging the emigration of Nigerians in large numbers, by granting visas to young citizens, a development he was misquoted as saying was “wicked”.
But contrary to the mischief, which he said was compounded by a comprehension problem, Amosun, in a statement from his media office, signed by Bola Adeyemi, had only lamented that the state of insecurity and unstable economy were the factors forcing Nigerians to seek greener pastures overseas.
The Ogun Central Senator, therefore, contended that his major concern was core professionals like medical doctors, lawyers, engineers and accountants, who were leaving the country in droves with their families, because such could open the country to greater challenges. Read more

Taylor Swift has announced details of the first single from her upcoming album ‘Midnights’, and shared some of its lyrics on billboards.
The singer will release her 10th album on Friday (October 21), and has already confirmed an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon the following Monday (October 24).
In a social media post, the singer has now confirmed a host of other events happening in the week around the album’s release, including the release of an official video for the single ‘Anti-Hero’ at 8am EST (1pm BST) on album release day.
Swift declared the track ‘Anti-Hero’ to be “one of my favourite songs I’ve ever written”, and noted of its significance: “I really don’t think I’ve delved this far into my insecurities in this detail before.” Read more
Noel Gallagher and Madness among line-up for Peter Blake’s 90th birthday concert (Standard)
Noel Gallagher, Madness and Paul Weller are among a star-studded line-up who will perform at a special concert in honour of pop artist Sir Peter Blake’s 90th birthday.
Sir Peter, who is best known for co-creating the cover art of The Beatles‘ 1967 album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, turned 90 in June and will be honoured at London’s Royal Festival Hall on December 2.
Musician Weller has curated the line-up which will also feature The Who’s Roger Daltrey, The Pretenders’ Chrissie Hynde and Baxter Dury, with BBC Radio 4’s John Wilson compering the evening.

Billionaire Elon Musk has promised to carry on funding Ukraine’s Starlink internet service a day after tweeting a threat to pull out.
On Saturday, Musk said his rocket company SpaceX would continue to fund its Starlink internet service in Ukraine, a day after he said it could no longer afford to do so.
‘The hell with it … even though starlink is still losing money & other companies are getting billions of taxpayer $, we’ll just keep funding ukraine govt for free’ Musk tweeted.
This seems to be a U-turn on Friday’s tweet where he said that SpaceX could not indefinitely fund Starlink in Ukraine. Read more
The Crown: Netflix defends show after Sir John Major criticism (BBC)
Netflix has defended The Crown as a “fictional dramatisation” following criticism of its forthcoming series.
Sir John Major told The Mail on Sunday that a scene which apparently depicts a plot to oust the late Queen was “a barrel-load of malicious nonsense”.
The scene is said to include a conversation between the former prime minister and Prince Charles, as he was then, about the Queen abdicating.
Sir John’s office told the newspaper there was never any such discussion. Read more
Peacock docu-series ‘‘Once Upon a Time in Londongrad’’ sets release date, trailer (Variety)
Peacock has set a release date and trailer for “Once Upon a Time in Londongrad,” its 6-part documentary about Russian oligarchs and the reaches of Vladimir Putin beyond Russia.
The series, from Buzzfeed Studios and Rise Films, is set to premiere on Nov. 15 on the streaming platform.
“Once Upon a Time in Londongrad” is directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Jed Rothstein (“WeWork”).
It follows BuzzFeed News investigative reporter Heidi Blake as she follows a tip about the death of a multi-millionaire property tycoon, which leads her to dig into a tangled web that ensnares Russian oligarchs, the U.K. government and Washington D.C and takes in the shocking poisoning of Russian defector and Putin critic Alexander Litvinenko, the suspicious death of Russian oligarch Boris Berezovsky, who was found dead at his ex-wife’s house in Ascot, and the attempted assignation of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal. Knives Out director confirms that Daniel Craig’s character Benoit Blanc is ‘obviously’ queer (People)
Daniel Craig’s Knives Out character Benoit Blanc is a member of the LGBTQ community, according to the film’s director.
Over the weekend, filmmaker Rian Johnson and Craig, 54, appeared at a press conference during the London Film Festival, where the duo revealed that the actor’s idiosyncratic detective is in a same-sex relationship.
According to Insider, a scene in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery — the sequel to 2019’s Knives Out — indicates that Blanc is living with a man.
When asked during the press conference about the scene and whether Blanc is queer, Johnson, 48, replied, “Yes, he obviously is,” the outlet reports. Read more
Belarus activist gets 25-year sentence for opposing regime (ABC)
A leading Belarusian political activist has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for opposing President Alexander Lukashenko’s regime.
Mikalay Autukhovich was convicted and sentenced by a Belarusian court Monday on charges of plotting a terror attack, high treason and a conspiracy to seize power.
Autukhovich is a 59-year old former military officer and a veteran of the Soviet war in Afghanistan. He has helped the opposition raise funds for their efforts to oppose Lukashenko, who has ruled the ex-Soviet nation with an iron hand for more than 28 years.
Lukashenko has brutally suppressed protests that were fueled by his being awarded a sixth term in office in a 2020 presidential vote that was widely seen as rigged. Read more

Nigeria’s U-17 Women’s team, Flamingos have qualified for the quarter final of the ongoing FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup with a deserved 2-1 win over Chile on Monday.
Nigeria needed only a draw to qualify for the next stage and won by delivering another impressive performance after the 4-0 win against New Zealand on Friday.
They qualify as Group B runners up with six points.

FG begins installation of Lagos National stadium’s tracks (Independent)
LAGOS – The Federal Government’s bid to restore the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos to its old glory has received a major boost with the commencement of the installation of the tartan tracks last week.
A top official of Kyle Next, one of the contractors handling the rehabilitation of the edifice confirmed the laying of the tracks has commenced and could be completed in four weeks with the newly installed facility in place.
Track technical specialist Joseph Ayinla of Ideal Sports, a sports facilities installation and management company, revealed that the tracks will be laid in stages.
“The first stage that we commenced last week is the Elastic layer(E-layer)stage which will be followed with the Sealant stage to make the tracks impermeable to water and other fluids. The third stage will be the coating stage. Read more
Mason Greenwood to spend over a month in custody on attempted rape charge (Standard)
Manchester United footballer Mason Greenwood will spend more than a month in custody after a district judge denied him bail on charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault.
The 21-year-old looked at his family from the dock before he was taken down the steps at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
All three charges relate to the same woman.
The player was first held in January over allegations relating to a young woman after images and videos were posted online. Read more
Tottenham issue Richarlison injury update after striker spotted in tears after Everton win (Express)
Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has been handed a major boost after confirming Richarlison will be fit to play in the World Cup, amid fears he could have been ruled out for months. The Brazilian was substituted against Everton with an injury and was reduced to tears after fearing the worst over his fate, but the Italian has clarified that is not the case.
The 25-year-old suffered a suspected calf problem during the second half of their 2-0 win over Everton on Saturday, with Yves Bissouma required to be brought on in his place. Goals from Harry Kane and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg were enough to give Spurs a vital win which takes them level on points with Manchester City.
There were concerns that Richarlison’s injury could keep him out for several weeks and perhaps even months, ruling him out of the World Cup, after the striker was spotted conducting an interview with Brazilian media whilst fighting back tears.

SponsorUnited has released its 2022 Women In Sports Report, revealing a 20 per cent brand deal increase year-over-year.
Morgan, who is one of the most well-known women’s footballers on the planet, has leapfrogged the likes of Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka into the top spot.
Osaka topped the Forbes list of highest-paid female athletes in 2021 with an overall pre-tax earning of $57.3 million (£50.6m). Williams earned a handsome $45.9 million (£40.5m) for both on-field and off-field achievements. Read more
Saudi Arabia shrugs off security concerns as it eyes F1 expansion (F1News)
Saudi Arabia has hosted the Jeddah Grand Prix for the past two seasons, and both races have got fans on the edge of their seats with the highspeed street circuit providing thrilling racing for spectators.
Currently in a 10-year deal that runs until 2030, the current plan is that Jeddah will only be the temporary home of the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix despite the drama and excitement that it has given us on the racetrack over the past two seasons.
Those in charge plan to move the Grand Prix to Qaddiya, where a new state of the art race facility is being constructed. However it’s thought that the track will not be completed until 2024 at the earliest.
“It [Qaddiya] will be an iconic place to have an F1 race, with a theme part that’s next to it,” said Prince Abdulaziz. Read more
Steve Ballmer drives Los Angeles Clippers into direct-to-consumer future with ClipperVision streaming launch (Variety)
Nearly a decade after acquiring the NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers, Steve Ballmer is finally realizing his dream to build a bigger and better TV platform for his beloved basketball franchise.
The Clippers today are launching ClipperVision, a regional subscription streaming service that offers six channel options for watching the vast majority of the team’s home and away games – more than 70 out of 84 regular season games. The service will cost $199 per season and is available largely in Southern California. The service’s first live stream bows Oct. 22. with an away-game against the Sacramento Kings.
One of the six channel feeds will be dedicated to the team’s traditional linear cable TV coverage via Bally Sports. Two more are dedicated to Spanish-language and Korean-language coverage of live games – with the Korean team anchoring from a studio in Seoul.
Another feed is an alternative view of the game — akin to ESPN’s new spin on “Monday Night Football” with Peyton and Eli Manning – dubbed “Ballervision,” that will feature NBA alums Jamal Crawford, Baron Davis and others chopping it up live as the game unfolds. Ballmer, well known for his over-the-top courtside displays of his love for the Clippers and basketball in general, will also join them periodically to weigh in. Read more
