Tenant alleges outrageous rent hike at Lagos complex

A tenant in Tafawa Balewa Square Complex, Onikan, J. O. Abass, has alleged outrageous increments in shops and offices within the facility.In a statement, Abass, who is the principal of J. O. Abass & Co, Legal Practitioner, claimed that the management increased the rent of shops and offices from N10,000 per square metre to N25,000 per square metre, which is a 150% increment.    

โ€œThey raised the service charge from N4,000 per square metre to N10,000 per square metre, which is a 150% increment.

โ€œThey are not ready to account for the service charges collected from tenants. They are forever having issues with Eko Electricity, and we donโ€™t have electricity all the time whilst the generators donโ€™t work, although we pay service charge,โ€ he said.

The complainant further alleged, โ€œMore importantly, they charge more than the stipulated tariffs for electricity. Most of the time, there is no running water. (Guardian)
