The Rolling Stones have revealed the very special guests for their SIXTY tour date at Liverpool Anfield Stadium next month.
Taking place on Thursday 9th June 2022, the Anfield concert marks the first time The Rolling Stones have played Liverpool since they performed two gigs at the Empire Theatre more than 50 years ago in March 1971.
Joining them at Anfield Stadium will be local Liverpool heroes Echo & The Bunnymen.
The Rolling Stones said: “It’s great to have Echo & The Bunnymen join us as special guests in their home city. We can’t wait to be back on stage in Liverpool! Roll on the summer!”
Echo & The Bunnymen frontman Ian McCulloch, who is a keen Liverpool FC and Rolling Stones aficionado, enthuses: “Two dreams in one – there’s nothing like The Rolling Stones and there’s nowhere like Anfield.
“I can’t explain how unbelievably happy and proud I am that my band Echo & The Bunnymen are going to be opening up for The Rolling Stones, The Greatest Rock & Roll band in the history of time, at Anfield, the shrine of life and football…
“The Rolling Stones!!! And at Anfield!!! I feel honoured and blessed…Thank you God.”
The Anfield Stadium show is part of The Rolling Stones’ 60th anniversary SIXTY tour across Europe this June and July which also includes two dates at London’s American Express presents BST Hyde Park. A four-part series of films, My Life as a Rolling Stone, will air on BBC TV Two and BBC iPlayer this summer. (PlanetRock)
