‘This Thing Called Marriage’ by Osuizugbe Adaeze Muareen is on the shortlist of 15 for this year’s #QuramoWritersPrize (QWP014)

Sometimes, pain comes in small doses. Other times, in larger quantities. The same thing goes for happiness. Some days, the joy threatens to burst forth in spurts, and other times, it flows gently like a stream. I have decided to count my blessings and be happy regardless. My marriage didn’t turn out as I had wanted, same as Chinenye’s but we owe it to ourselves to trudge on and live another day. I refuse to be bitter or mull over how my life would have turned out if I’d lived differently or chosen otherwise. It wouldn’t change a thing.
