Three arrested for forcing pepper into Edo woman’s private parts (Punch)
Three persons have been arrested by operatives of the Edo State Police Command in connection with a video in which one Miss Favour Ada was stripped and tortured for alleged theft. Ada was allegedly accused of stealing an iPhone worth over N440,000 at Ugbiyoko, a suburb of Benin. The video, which went viral on the social media, showed the 25-year-old lady being stripped and tortured before pepper was forced into her private parts by her attackers. Read more
ASUU suspends strike (Guardian)
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced a conditional suspension of its nationwide strike. This comes after a series of meetings between top government officials and members of the union. ASUU has now directed its members to return to classrooms with immediate effect. President of the Union, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, addressed a news conference at about 8:30 pm Thursday night, after another round of meeting with the government delegation, led by the Minister of Labour, Senator Chris Ngige. SAN quizzed over $30,000 in CJN Onnoghen’s account (Nation)
Detectives have quizzed a Senior Advocate of Nigeria over alleged payment of about $30,000 into one of the domiciliary accounts of the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen. Mr Joe Agi is said to be the referee to the CJN when one of the domiciliary accounts was opened. Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) searched the home of the senior lawyer in Abuja early yesterday after obtaining a court order. Read more
Assailants lure, kill estate developer, hide corpse in bush (Punch)
Some unknown men have killed an estate developer, Bababunmi Akinyemi, in the Mowe area of the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State. The victim was allegedly lured to his site at Peace Estate, opposite the Redemption Camp off the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, where he was killed and his body dumped in the bush by the assailants. Plane body identified as footballer Sala (BBC)
The body recovered from the wreckage of a crashed plane is that of Cardiff City player Emiliano Sala, Dorset Police have said. Sala, 28, was travelling to Cardiff in a plane piloted by David Ibbotson, which went missing over the English Channel on 21 January. The body was recovered late on Wednesday after the wreckage was found on Sunday morning. Read more
