Madelyn Cline is ready to graduate (Allure)

The girl is tired. Since the dawn of TikTok and the rapid acceleration of the trend cycle that it now relentlessly powers, we’ve watched entire aesthetics and identities rise and fall at breakneck speed. One archetype, the “sleepy girl,” has displayed a bit more longevity than others. Maybe all the power naps?

The sleepy girl has inspired products including Hailey Bieber’s popular shade of blush and a supposedly drowsing beverage combining tart cherry juice and magnesium, and has found her way into the annals of public health (“Should You Try the Sleepy Girl Mocktail?” the Cleveland Clinic asked in 2023). The sleepy girl doesn’t need to look a certain way, other than flushed from just waking up. All she has to do is want to lie down. Her patron saint might be the actor Madelyn Cline, who showed up apologetically late to lunch on a gray afternoon in early spring, her eyelids heavy, her hair pillowcase-teased. Read more

UCLA scientists develop topical cream that regrows hair in just 1 week (Dmarge)

For decades, the baldness industry has thrived on overpromising and underdelivering. From late-night infomercials to heavily marketed supplements, most so-called cures have failed to offer real results.

But a team of scientists at UCLA may have finally cracked it: a topical cream that doesn’t just slow hair loss, it may actually reverse it. Early tests suggest it can stimulate new hair growth in as little as one week.

The compound, known as PP405, was developed by regenerative medicine researchers at UCLA and has since been licensed to biotech startup Pelage Pharmaceuticals. Unlike traditional treatments such as minoxidil or finasteride, which either slow the loss or bulk up thinning strands, PP405 targets the root cause of hair loss: the inactivity of hair follicle stem cells. The event also featured the tournament’s first-ever halftime show, with Doja Cat, J Balvin, Tems, and surprise guests Coldplay performing high in the stands.

The cadre of international performers played a 15-minute spectacular from up in the nosebleeds thanks to an innovative stage created by halftime presenters Global Citizen and partner Christ Martin of Coldplay. Putting the stage in the stands allowed the production to avoid damaging the field’s freshly planted grass, and limited the changeover timing issues faced by Shakira’s halftime performance at the 2024 Copa America final.
