Nigeria’s track sensation Tobi Amusan is making waves at the Paris 2024 Olympics, setting her sights on that elusive Olympic medal. The 100m Hurdles World Record holder blazed through her heat with a scorching time of 12.49 seconds, securing a spot in the semifinals.
“God is great,” Amusan told MakingofChampions in an exclusive interview. “My third Olympics, and the goal is to come out here and execute each round.”
Known as “Tobi Express,” Amusan has dominated the 100m hurdles event globally, clinching gold at the World Championship, Commonwealth Games, African Championship, African Games, and Diamond League. However, Olympic success has remained just out of reach, with her closest call being a fourth-place finish in Tokyo.
Despite her World Record status, Amusan remains humble. “I just act like an underdog coming into every race and just have fun with it,” she said, brushing off any notion of pressure.
Reflecting on her Olympic journey, Amusan noted a shift in her mindset. “This year is more vibing, fun, and executing my race and just keeping calm,” she explained, contrasting it with her previous approaches.
At 26, Amusan feels the weight of experience. “It did hit me when I got into the games village… three times, girl, you’re old,” she joked. But that experience may be her secret weapon. “I prepared all my life for this, and I think I’m ready.”
As Amusan gears up for the semifinals, the athletics world watches with bated breath. Could this be the moment “Tobi Express” finally claims her Olympic prize? We’ll find out as she takes to the track on Friday.
