Fast rising Soul singer, Tomi Owo was featured artiste at ‘Cafe One by Sterling’ on Sunday August 5, 2018.
Dressed in a black piece and backed by her guitarist, Ope, Tomi Owo delivered nine songs in a one hour set that had the intimate audience clapping, dancing and singing along to some of her cover versions and originals.
Fresh off a GAC Motor’s sponsored trip and performance in China, Tomi Owo displayed a growing maturity on stage and in her song writing.
Opening with cover versions of Sade Adu other, Tomi Owo launched into songs from her EP and forthcoming album, Signs of Life.
Crowd favourites, which had the audience singing along, included Night Rain and Linger.
Tomi Owo, who has worked with Femi Leye and Johnny Drille, has been likened to Sade Adu and Jhene Aiko but her music is defined by songwriting that is at once contemporary yet uncannily mature.
She is adept at capturing particular emotions and moments in time and turning them, whether pain or regret or nostalgia into works of art. Her songs are sedate yet stirring, bittersweet yet endearing in a completely unsentimental way.
Tomi Owo, who collaborated with HelaBase and Samsung to produce “Linger”, is an artiste to watch out for.
