Lagos road congestion: FRSC boss has the answer
The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, has identified inter-modal transportation system that will integrate other modes of transportation such as water, rail, and pipeline among others as the only solution to the traffic problem in Lagos State. Dr. Boboye said this while delivering the first distinguished lecture series of the Lagos State University School of Transport themed, ‘Transportation, road safety management towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals’.
He stressed the need for the integration of the transportation systems to put an end to the problem; noting that there is nothing the State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) and Road Safety officers can do to end the traffic jam issue because of the vehicular density in the State.
“Estimated 90 per cent of passengers and freight in Nigeria rely on the road network but if the inter-modal system of transportation was effective, most Nigerians would prefer the alternative systems. The transport system is an important component of the economy, impacting on development and welfare of the people and it is a major pre-requisite for the development of any nation,” he said.
The question is, who will bell the cat? So much corruption in this matter, and many, many parties benefitting from the misfortune Lagos residents face every day.
Lagos Police in search of whistleblowers
Bala Elkana, a Deputy Superintendent of Police and Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, gave the warning in an interview in Lagos. Elkana was reacting to public complaints about the use of commercial vehicles by police for operations.
“We have not ordered the use of commercial buses (Danfo) for police operations in Lagos State. There are some stations with such buses painted with police colour and name boldly written,” he said. “If any member of the public should see police operatives in a commercial vehicle on operation, they should report to the state command.”
LOL. Oya na, Lagosians, time to blow whistle. Sha no let anybody see you o. If not, OYO lo wa.
The Dancing Senator is gracious in defeat
The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2018 Osun State governorship election, Senator Ademola Adeleke has congratulated Governor Gboyega Oyetola on his victory at the Supreme Court.
Adeleke said in a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, that his ambition to be the Governor of Osun State was never a do-or-die affair. He said the Supreme Court’s decision, regardless of his disagreement and disappointment with it remained final.
He said, “As a democrat and law-abiding citizen, I accept the ruling no matter my misgivings. I wish Governor Oyetola well in the governance of Osun State.”
Awww. Uncle Davido, pele sir. Better luck (or assurance) next time.
RUGA and ‘rugged’ talk
Nwodo in a statement said, “My attention has been drawn to a broadcast by Abdul Azeez Suleman, speaking for a coalition of northern groups in which he had the audacity to give the Federal Government an ultimatum of 30 days to rescind its decision on the suspension of its RUGA settlements policy. Abdul went further to threaten the expulsion of southerners resident in the North at the expiration of his ultimatum if the Federal Government does not rescind its suspension decision.
“Let Abdul, the Federal Government and others like them, take notice that Ohanaeze has no objections to all Igbo in the North returning home so long as all northerners in the South-East would leave the South-East and we dismantle the federal structure imposed on us by the military and return to autonomous federating units… “I call on all Igbo to be ready to defend themselves. Enough of these threats!”
This mess is just so, so sad. We keep making the same mistakes, toeing the same ill-fated path, and then we expect positive change? Jokers, all of us.
Troost-Ekong has the right words to say
“Everyone was upset about the last game against Madagascar so I think everyone has that extra motivation. It’s do or die because we know we have to do everything to stay in the tournament,” Troost-Ekong told reporters ahead of the last-16 tie.
“It’s going to be a tough game against Cameroon. We faced them in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers and they might be out for revenge so we have to be ready for them.”
Good. For once it’s not match bonus motivating (most of) you guys. Mtcheew.
