Sowore’s detention continues

The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Wednesday, refused to grant the motion filed by Mr Omoyele Sowore, Convener, #RevolutionNow protests, challenging his detention for 45 days by the Department of State Security (DSS).

Justice Nkeonye Maya, who declined all applications by Counsel to Sowore, Mr Femi Falana, SAN, sent the case back to Justice Taiwo for further hearing.

Falana, who had asked the court to set aside the ex parte order granted by Justice Taiwo, also applied for bail orally when Justice Maya rejected the earlier application. Sowore, who is presently in detention had, on August 9, approached the court, seeking an order to vacate the ex parte order that gave the DSS the legal backing to detain him for 45 days.

I talk am. If FG mean you, you go need both John the Baptist and Prophet Elijah to rescue you.

Orji Uzor Kalu is singing ‘truth songs’

The lawmaker representing Abia North Senatorial District and former governor of the state, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, yesterday told a Federal High Court, Lagos, how he gave former President Olusegun Obasanjo N100 million in 1998 when he (Obasanjo) was released from prison custody. He also said that he gave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) N500 million when the party was formed in 1998.

Led in evidence by Chief Awa Kalu (SAN) at the resumption of his alleged N7.2 billion fraud trial before Justice Mohammed Idriss, Kalu said he met nothing in the account of Abia State when he assumed office as the governor in 1999. He said he met monthly allocation of N168 million, which was not enough to pay salary of the state civil servants.

He also said that he supplied lesser fire-arms to the ministry of defence during military regime.

Haba, Chief! After you na you o. Please, after the trial, I’m available to be ‘given to.’

Watch your friends… and their social media posts

A Palestinian teenager admitted to Harvard says he has been denied entry to the US after officials objected to his friends’ social media posts. Ismail Ajjawi, who lives in Lebanon, says he was questioned for hours after arriving at Boston’s airport on Friday.

Mr Ajjawi, 17, says his visa was cancelled after immigration officials searched his phone and laptop. Despite his protests that he had nothing to do with the posts, he was found “inadmissible” to the US.

Mr Ajjawi, who was awarded a scholarship to study in the US, has since returned to Lebanon. Harvard says “the university is working closely with the student’s family and appropriate authorities to resolve this matter” before classes being on 3 September.

How not to settle a 50-year-old beef

A pensioner waited 50 years to get revenge on his school bully by allegedly shooting him dead during a reunion party. Thanapat Anakesri, 69, is wanted by police after fleeing the room when he opened fire at one of his former classmates.

He had been invited to an event on Saturday afternoon in Ang Thong, central Thailand, to meet up with people he went to school with. But after the group sat down to enjoy wine, a buffet of Thai food and ice cream, the man confronted his former tormentor Suthat Kosayamat, 69. He accused Suthat of bullying him when they were both 16.

Former navy officer Thanapat allegedly flew into a rage when Suthat, a tailor, said he could not remember there being a problem between the pair. Thanapat is accused of pulling out a handgun after demanding an apology from Suthat, who refused. He allegedly shot his former classmate before fleeing the room.

Come and get me – Ibrahimovic to Man Utd

LA Galaxy striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic says he would be open to a return to former club Manchester United when his contract ends in November. The 37-year-old Swede has scored 46 goals in 49 games since moving to the Major League Soccer side in March 2018.

“I could play easy in the Premier League, so if United needs me, I’m here,” he said.

Ibrahimovic scored 28 goals in his 2016-17 debut season for United before suffering a knee injury. However, if he were to rejoin United, he would not be allowed to play for them until January, when the English transfer window reopens.

Nah. Won’t happen. Everybody dey find young blood now. Zlatan, dey your dey biko.
