Sanwo-Olu readies for a fire-for-fire battle with crime
Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has re-stated his administration’s commitment towards ensuring that Lagos is crime-free. Sanwo-Olu’s spokesman, Gboyega Akosile, said in a statement that he made this known at the commissioning of 125 patrol vehicles and 35 patrol motorcycles for the use of security operatives in the state.
The Governor said: “This young administration is just 99 days old; security and good governance happens to be the sixth pillar of our ‘THEMES’ policy agenda and we have attempted modestly to ensure that we engage each and every one of those pillars
“What we are doing today is a demonstration of our commitment to good governance by ensuring that the dividends of democracy are not just felt but are also things that people can feel, see and we can act on.”

Xenophobia and its root causes
South Africa’s Foreign Minister, Naledi Pandor, acknowledged on Thursday that prejudice against people from other African countries was one of the causes behind deadly attacks on foreign-owned businesses, a day after Pretoria was forced to shut its embassy in Nigeria over threats of retaliatory violence.
At least five Africans have been killed in attacks on foreigners in South Africa this week.
“There is an Afrophobia we are sensing that exists, there is resentment and we need to address that,” Pandor said. “There is a targeting of Africans from other parts of Africa, we can’t deny that. But, there is also criminality…because a lot of this is accompanied by theft,” she added, describing the attacks as a complex phenomenon whose root causes were not easy to define.
Agreed. But please, less talk more action. The attacks have gone on for too long and there needs to be practical actions taken to curtail these excesses.

A first lady with looting troubles
A court in Honduras has sentenced former First Lady Rosa Elena Bonilla to 58 years in prison.
Bonilla, 52, was found guilty of misappropriating $779,000 (£635,000) from international donations and public funds during the four years her husband Porfirio Lobo was in power.
Prosecutors said she had used the money to buy jewellery and to pay for medical bills and her children’s tuition. Her lawyer said Bonilla was innocent and would appeal.

Something must kill a man…or woman
People who eat vegan and vegetarian diets have a lower risk of heart disease and a higher risk of stroke, a major study suggests.
They had 10 fewer cases of heart disease and three more strokes per 1,000 people compared with the meat-eaters. The research, published in the British Medical Journal, looked at 48,000 people for up to 18 years.
However, it cannot prove whether the effect is down to their diet or some other aspect of their lifestyle.
This world sha. You chop meat and fish, wahala. You eat vegetables and fruits, nsogbu. Wetin man go come dey chop na? Life does know how to truncate someone’s vibe.
