Osoba’s rallying call for revolutionary transformation
A member of the 1976 Constitution Drafting Committee, Prof. Olusegun Osoba, has said rather than restructuring the country what Nigeria needs is a struggle by the people to free themselves from the hold of the corrupt ruling elite. Osoba said this during the public presentation of the Minority Report & Draft Constitution for the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1976, which he co-authored with the late Dr Bala Usman.
“In fact, all the nations of the world today who stand tall and proud have, at one point or the other in their history, undergone a revolutionary transformation and they have removed the hands of looters from their treasury and put themselves in the hands of reliable and working honest people,” he said.
“So, there is no ambiguity about it, a continuous struggle is the only solution to our problems, not restructuring.”
Oga, don’t disturb us. Naija is not ready for that struggle yet. We just wan chop life, make life no chop us.
Nigerian doctors and the Ministry of [Outside] Labour & [Un]Employment
The Nigerian Medical Association and National Association of Resident Doctors have described as “unfortunate” the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige’s statement on brain drain in the medical sector.
Ngige, who spoke on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Wednesday, said he was not bothered that medical doctors are leaving Nigeria in droves, saying that the nation has a surplus of them and must therefore “export” to other countries.
The NMA president, Dr. Adedayo Faduyile, said Nigeria did not have enough doctors, stressing the need to ensure the country retains its medical personnel. He said, “That is an unfortunate statement which shows that he has done nothing in medical practice. The World Health Organisation stated that, for optimal healthcare to be achieved, we need doctor/patient ratio of one to 600. In Nigeria, we have 40,000 doctors taking care of 200 million people. We have the maternal mortality that is about the highest in the world. To correct it, we need health professionals around.”
LOL. Our politicians and their crass ignorance. It doesn’t smell nice.
How Aisha Buhari’s proposed university turned PDP and Co to wailers
The Peoples Democratic Party, Coalition of United Political Parties, and The Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership have expressed opposition to a proposal by the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, Aisha, to establish a private university to be known as Muhammadu Buhari University. The groups described the proposed university as misplaced.
Aisha had, during a town hall meeting in Yola, Adamawa State organised by her in collaboration with Concerned Indigenes of Adamawa, disclosed her plan for the private university.
The PDP Deputy National Publicity, Mr Diran Odeyemi, said, “The proposed university by Mrs Aisha Buhari to be named after her husband is a manifestation of the warnings that the PDP has been giving Nigerians that the APC is a rotten political platform that was established to dupe Nigerians under the coinage of change mantra. Nigerians will remember that we raised the alarm about the deceitful tactics of Buhari and his immediate family who made us to feel they could not afford the money for a nomination form for his second term.”
Chai. See confam guilt tripping. As if APC is the only ‘rotten political platform’. Mtcheew.
A Malcolm in the midde of a judicial storm
A lawyer, Malcolm Omirhobo, has filed a suit before the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking an order blocking the appointment of the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad, as the substantive CJN. The plaintiff alleged in the suit that Muhammad made himself available as a tool that was used in the violation of the Constitution, especially with regards to the “illegal” removal of Justice Walter Onnoghen.
President Muhammadu Buhari had sworn in Muhammad as the acting CJN after suspending Onnoghen in January. The President with the consent of the National Judicial Council had last week extended the acting tenure of Muhammad by another three months.
Mr. Omirhobo argues that President Buhari lacked the constitutional powers to unilaterally suspend and/or removal a sitting CJN from office, as was done in the case of Onnoghen. He also urged the court order to restrain the National Assembly from confirming any appointment of Justice Muhammad as the substantive CJN.
Oga Malcolm suppose know say him na John the Baptist for dis matter: a lone voice in the wilderness. Shikena.
No chance of an Ortiz vs Joshua match
Luis Ortiz will not replace Jarrell Miller as world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua’s opponent on June1, the Cuban’s promoter, King Kong Boxing, has said.
Joshua was due to fight Miller at New York’s Madison Square Garden – the British fighter’s US debut. But Miller was denied a licence after an “adverse finding” from a sample taken on March 20.
“We just received news from promoter that it’s a no-go and it was all a gimmick and Hearn’s low-ball offers will not be accepted,” wrote King Kong Boxing on Instagram. “No contract even ever got sent so sorry to all the loyal fans. Luis really wanted this title shot.”
Mtcheww. I blame Big Baby for all this palava. Simple enter ring, collect beating and go home richer, he cannot do. Annoying stuff.
