Former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has been appointed as Tottenham’s new manager on an initial 18-month deal with the option of extending.
Spurs sacked Nuno Espirito Santo on Monday morning following a poor run of form, with Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester United proving the tipping point for chairman Daniel Levy.
Conte, 52, has been out of work since leaving Inter Milan at the end of last season and had held talks with Tottenham last summer over replacing Jose Mourinho.
The former Juventus manager eventually decided against joining Spurs but Levy has managed to persuade him second time around with the help of managing director Fabio Paratici.
Announcing the appointment on their official Twitter page, Spurs tweeted: ‘Buongiorno Antonio’ alongside a video of Conte.
‘I am extremely happy to return to coaching, and to do so at a Premier League club that has the ambition to be a protagonist again,’ said Conte.
‘Tottenham Hotspur has state-of-the-art facilities and one of the best stadiums in the world.
‘I can’t wait to start working to convey to the team and the fans the passion, mentality and determination that have always distinguished me, as a player and as a coach. (Metro)
