Why Ghanaians dominate WAEC excellence awards ahead of Nigerians — ANCOPSS President (Guardian)
The National President of the All Nigerian Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Alhaji Muhammad Ibn Musa, has attributed the consistent dominance of Ghanaian students in the annual West African Examinations Council (WAEC) International Excellence Awards to systemic lapses in Nigeria’s education system.
Speaking in an interview, Musa expressed concern over Ghana’s repeat wins in the top three slots of the school-based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) over the past two years, despite Nigeria contributing nearly three-quarters of the total candidates across the WAEC member countries.
“This issue is a serious one, and if I had my way, I wouldn’t even want to talk about it because it implicates all Nigerian teachers,” he said. However, he acknowledged that the problem runs deeper and cannot be attributed to any single group. “I can’t say the fault is solely from the principals or the teachers. They both share the blame, and so do governments, parents, and students.” Read more
MultiChoice vs FCCPC: Only President has power to fix prices, Court rules (Tribune)
The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Thursday ruled over a dispute between the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) and MultiChoice Nigeria over the recent hike in subscription fees for DStv and GOtv services, declaring that only the President has the power to fix or suspend prices in Nigeria.
The trial Judge, Justice James Omotosho, ruled that the suit filed by MultiChoice Nigeria constituted an abuse of court process as similar proceedings were already pending elsewhere, adding that the plaintiff should have pursued its arguments in that court, rendering the current filing procedurally inappropriate.
Justice Omotosho noted that while the FCCPC has investigative powers under its establishing Act, it lacks the authority to fix or suspend prices unless specifically delegated by the President through a gazetted instrument and held that such delegation was not presented to the court. Read more

Blue Springs is the longest cave in the state. It’s a 37-mile subterranean labyrinth. It’s not for the amateur cave spelunker. The unnamed student was on a research trip with classmates when he fell ill while deep inside the cave, three miles deep, to be exact.
