Traffic violation: Lagos to auction 53 seized vehicles (Punch)
The Lagos State Task Force on the Environment and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit has said it is set to auction vehicles seized from traffic offenders.
The offenders had earlier been convicted by the court.
According to the agency, 31 vehicles impounded for traffic offences and 22 abandoned by their owners for over six months after their arrest will be auctioned.
The Chairman of the agency, Olayinka Egbeyemi, who said this in a statement, noted that the owners of the impounded vehicles contravened the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018, adding that a public notice had been issued for the owners of both the forfeited and abandoned vehicles to identify them at the agency’s car parks in Ikorodu and Bolade in Oshodi. Lagos’ first military gov Mobolaji Johnson dies at 83 (Punch)
The first military governor of Lagos State, Brigadier Mobolaji Johnson, is dead.
A top official of the Lagos State Government confirmed the news to our Correspondent.
Mobolaji, who was born on February 9, 1936, died on Wednesday (today), aged 83.
As Military Governor of Lagos State, he was in office between May
28, 1967 and July 1975, under the military regime of General Yakubu Gowon. Read more
We’ll speed up C-of-Os’ issuance, says Sanwo-Olu (Nation)
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu Wednesday assured Lagosians that the backlog of Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O) will be issued to their owners in the next two months.
He also said the Rent Tribunal Committee would be constituted before December to try real estate offenders.
The governor, who spoke at the Stakeholders’ Engagement on Real Estate/Agency Business organised by the Lagos State Ministry of Housing, said five commissioners would join him to sign the C of Os, to clear the backlog. Read more
Residents seek speed bumps on roads to reduce accidents (Guardian)
Residents of Anuoluwapo Community Development Association (CDA) and its environs in Aboru, Agbado-Okeodo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State have pleaded with the governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu to help install bumps on their roads, as many residents’ lives are being daily endangered by over-speeding drivers.
The residents said the rubber speed bumps installed when the roads around their corridor were constructed by the immediate past administration had all worn out and have disappeared from the road. They said as a result, many drivers and motorcyclists speed with no caution, sometimes leading to accidents.
Speaking on behalf of the residents, the chairman, Anuoluwapo Community Development Association (CDA), Imam Wasiu Popoola, said there is no day the community don’t witness an accident. He disclosed that in one of the recent accidents, two lives were lost, adding that the worst hit victims are residents of Ayo Afolabi Street. Read more
Lawyer petitions rights commission over clients’ ‘unlawful’ arrest (Nation)
Lagos lawyer Lanre Oyetunji has urged the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to investigate the alleged violation of the rights of his clients by the Police.
In an October 22 petition to the NHRC Executive Secretary, the lawyer said his clients, Gbenga Arogundade, Sukurat Arogundade, and Kazeem Arogundade of the Iberekodo Community, Ibeju-Lekki, were unlawfully arrested.
He said it was over an attempt by some persons to illegally take over vast acres of land on Iberekodo Village, along Eleko Road, Magbon, Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area of Lagos State. Read more

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the February 23, 2019 election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has described Wednesday’s dismissal of the appeal he filed at the election petition tribunal by the Supreme Court as part of the democratic challenges being faced by the nation.
Atiku stated this in a statement he personally signed in Abuja, made available to journalists on Wednesday.
“The judgement is part of democratic challenges we must face as a nation. It is said that the Supreme Court is not final because it is infallible, but that it is infallible because it is final. While I believe that only God is infallible everywhere, and only Nigerians are infallible in our democracy, I must accept that the judicial route I chose to take, as a Democrat, has come to a conclusion. Police warn Ekiti residents to beware of scammers, fake NGOs (Guardian)
The Ekiti State Police Command has raised the alarm over existence of fake non-governmental organisations in the state that have been swindling unsuspecting members of the public.The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Asuquo Amba, said the scammers had been operating and duping the populace using fake and inexistent empowerment programmes as baits.
In a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Caleb Ikechukwu, the police commissioner said the dupers were operating with five fictitious NGO names to defraud the people.“We are using this medium to inform the public that some fake NGOs that are defrauding the people under the cover of empowerment programmes are parading themselves in Ekiti communities.
