In a shocking turn of events, the Gbagada-inward Third Mainland Bridge axis of Lagos State just after Charly Boy bus stop witnessed a deadly incident on Monday morning. Tensions escalated as an enraged mob blocked the road in protest after a driver, allegedly being pursued by Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officials, struck and killed two Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) highway managers.
The victims, identified as two women employed by the LAWMA, lost their lives during what appears to be a pursuit gone horribly wrong. The incident unfolded along the Gbagada Expressway, leaving the community in mourning and seeking answers.
As the protest gained momentum, reports emerged that hoodlums had hijacked the demonstration, adding an additional layer of chaos to the already tense situation.
The motives behind the said LASTMA officials’ pursuit remain unclear, deepening the public’s concern and prompting calls for a thorough investigation.
The tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers associated with high-speed chases and the need for accountability within traffic management agencies. The community now awaits official statements from relevant authorities to shed light on the circumstances surrounding this devastating incident.
And except for an update by Mr Jubril A. Gawat, the SSA to the Lagos State Governor on New Media on his X handle @Mr_JAGs, saying that all is clear at the moment at Gbagada Expressway, neither the state government nor LASTMA has explained what really happened as of mid Monday morning.
