Trial of Lagos drug baron stalled over ill health (Punch)
The trial of the alleged drug dealer, Jimoh Sulaimon Olowoidigede, alias Temo, before the Federal High Court in Lagos, was stalled on Monday, due to his ill health.
Temo, who is also known as Godfather and 001, is standing trial for alleged drug trafficking before Justice Deinde Dipeolu.
He is facing six counts bordering on conspiracy, trafficking 704 kilograms of cannabis sativa (Ghana Loud), running a drug trafficking organisation, and money laundering, preferred against him by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency. Read more

The Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has been sworn in as governor of Edo State.
Sen. Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had defeated the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Barr. Asue Ighodalo, and that of the Labour Party Barr. Olumide Akpata, in the September 21 governorship election.
Hon. Denise Idahosa was also sworn in as Deputy Governor of the state.

Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has dismissed the rumours of an alleged Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted at the old Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) site near Terminus Market in Jos North Local Government Area.
Mutfwang in an official statement issued by his Director of Press and Public Affairs Dr Gyang Bere clarified that the alarm was false, triggered by a group of individuals who misinterpreted a heap of polythene bags as a potential threat.

The slice of cake was packaged in a box bearing then-Princess Elizabeth’s silver insignia and included a printed letter from the bride and a decorative doily.

A British beautician facing decades behind bars after being accused of smuggling cocaine into the US from Mexico has insisted she believed she was only carrying bags of cash across the border.
Kim Hall, 28, from Middlesbrough, was arrested after Homeland Security agents intercepted the loaded suitcases at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport in August.

Russia has suffered record losses for a second consecutive day, Ukraine has claimed, as Vladimir Putin’s forces seek to advance in Donbas and repel Kyiv’s incursion into Kursk.
Just 24 hours after Ukraine claimed Russia had suffered a record 1,770 losses, Kyiv’s military claimed this grim total had been surpassed by 1,950 casualties on Monday – which would mark Russia’s worst single day since launching its full-scale invasion in February 2022.
The totals given by Ukraine’s military do not specify between troops killed, wounded or captured. Ukraine now claims to have inflicted a total of 712,610 casualties upon Russia – which is broadly in line with estimates given by Ukraine’s Western allies. Ecuador international Marco Angulo has died at the age of 22 just over a month after being seriously injured in a car crash, his club have announced.

Bendel Insurance and Plateau United have been charged for breaching the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) frameworks and rules during their Matchday 11 clash against Kano Pillars and Enugu Rangers respectively.
According to the ruling, Bendel Insurance will forfeit three points and three goals for assault on match officials during their 1-0 home loss to Kano Pillars at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City on Saturday, November 9, 2024.
