Troops nab 8 Boko Haram terrorists, 2 kidnapper informants in Taraba

Troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/ Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have arrested 10 suspects, comprising eight Boko Haram terrorists (BHT) and two high-profile kidnapper informants, in Taraba State.

Acting on reliable intelligence, troops conducted a raid on the residence of one of the terrorist leaders Tukura Abdul-Kareem in the Sunkani Ward of Ardo-Kola Local Government Area on September 29 which led to the arrest of one Abdul-Kareem and seven additional suspects who had travelled from various states to join the terror cell.

This was disclosed in a statement on Tuesday by Captain Olubodunde Oni, the Acting Assistant Director of 6 Brigade Army Public Relations. 

He said investigation revealed that the terrorists were planning to establish a sleeper cell within Taraba State, to launch Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attacks on innocent individuals and critical facilities within the state.

According to him, Abdul-Kareem also confessed to having joined the BHT with his brother Adamu Abdul-Kareem for a long period who is still hibernating in the bush with the terrorists at an unknown area.

Items recovered from the suspects include nine mobile phones, identity cards, wraps of controlled items suspected to be Marijuana and other hard drugs.

In a separate operation, troops deployed at Chachanji village in Takum LGA arrested two informants linked to high-profile kidnapping syndicates on September 30.

The individuals according to the statement are known to have provided vital information to kidnappers who have been aiding a wanted notorious criminal known as Anyogo and his gang with information on the activities of troops within the area and also responsible for identifying businessmen with money to be robbed or kidnapped for ransom.

The two suspects, namely Patience Avadoo Tersoo and Joy  Nguemu Emmanuel, are believed to be Anyogo’s Wife and sister.

Items recovered from the suspects include one mobile phone, one Super Core Motorcycle and a calabash.

The Commander 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, while commenting on the successful operations, commended the troops of the 6 Brigade for their exceptional dedication and professionalism in carrying out these successful operations.

He noted that the swift action of troops had disrupted a dangerous terror plot and safeguarded innocent lives.

General Uwa also extended his gratitude to the good citizens of Taraba State for their continued vigilance and cooperation.

He stated that trust and support are crucial in the Brigade’s ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security within the state.

“Together, we will continue to ensure a safer and more secure Taraba and Nigeria at large,” he said. (Channels)
