A truck, reportedly suffering from brake failure, crashed into Ayetoro Market in Lagos, leaving at least three people dead.
The truck, descending from Ita-Opo, is said to have lost its brakes, hitting a commercial tricycle and a parked Toyota Camry before ramming into the market.

LASG dislodges illegal occupants under Eko Bridge (Nation)
The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), popularly known as KAI, says it has dislodged occupants of 84 rooms constructed under Eko Bridge at Elegbata, on the Lagos Island.
Its Corps Marshal, retired Maj. Olanini Cole, disclosed this in a statement in Lagos on Monday by the agency’s Spokesperson, Mr Lukman Ajayi.
Cole said that one person who allegedly built an eight-room toilet and linked the pipes into the Lagoon was also arrested during the operation. Read more
COAS: Lagbaja to be laid to rest Friday (NewTelegraph)
The late Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, would be laid to rest in Abuja on Friday, November 15.
His immediate elder brother, Moshood Lagbaja, made this known in Osogbo, Osun State during a condolence visit by St Charles Grammar School Osogbo Old Boys Association (SCOBA).

The Kwara State Government has said public sector workers without a valid registration number will not be paid salary and bonuses from November (this month).
Commissioner of Finance, Dr Hauwa Nuru, disclosed this on Monday in a statement.

Gunmen kill 2 in Abeokuta shooting (Channels)
Two people have been reportedly killed in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital by gunmen numbering three in the early hour of Monday, while two others sustained bullet injuries.
The incident has been confirmed by the public relations officer of the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, in a statement.

Judith Jamison, acclaimed dancer and Alvin Ailey artistic director, dies aged 81 (Guardian)
Judith Jamison, an acclaimed dancer and choreographer who for two decades was artistic director of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, died on Saturday in New York, at the age of 81.
Her death came after a brief illness, according to a post on the company’s Instagram page.
Jamison grew up in Philadelphia and began dancing at the age of six, she said in a 2019 Ted talk. She joined Ailey’s modern dance company in 1965, when few Black women were prominent in American dance, and performed there for 15 years. Read more

Bruce Degen, the illustrator of “The Magic School Bus” series of children’s books, died on Thursday at his home in Newtown, Conn. He was 79.
The cause was pancreatic cancer, his family said.
The main character of the books, a science teacher named Ms. Frizzle, shows her elementary school students that adventure awaits in understanding the biology, chemistry and physics of everyday life.
Ms. Frizzle drives her yellow school bus up into the clouds, so that her students can hop inside raindrops and travel through their local water treatment system. On other occasions, she drives through the small intestine and across the surface of the sun. Read more
Mali: Director of Australian gold company arrested (AfricaNews)
Authorities in Mali have arrested the chief executive and two other employees of Australian gold mining company Resolute Mining while they were visiting the country to discuss an unspecified dispute, the company said Monday.
The three people, including managing director Terence Holohan , were arrested last Friday in Bamako, the capital of Mali .
In a statement on Resolute Mining ‘s website , Andrew Wray, the company’s non-executive chairman, said the three officials had been “unexpectedly detained” after a discussion about “claims made against” the company, without giving further details. Read more

A man who was stabbed to death with an 18-inch blade in south London yesterday cried ‘it’s the end of my life’ as he lay on the floor.
One man died yesterday after a crazed attacker, thought to have mental health issues, went on a rampage at East Street Market, Walworth, in south London.

Ex-UK soldier facing spying charge admits escaping from prison by hiding under a truck (ABC)
A former British soldier who is facing spying charges has admitted escaping from a London prison by clinging to the underside of a delivery truck.
Daniel Khalife, 23, changed his plea to guilty on Monday, part-way through his trial at London’s Woolwich Crown Court.
He continues to deny violating Britain’s Official Secrets Act by collecting information useful to an enemy — namely Iran — as well as breaching the Terrorism Act and planting fake bombs at a military base. Read more
1 dead, 16 injured in Tuskegee University homecoming shooting (UPI)
One person is dead and at least 16 injured following a shooting at Tuskegee University as the school marked its 100th homecoming anniversary Sunday.
The shooting happened on campus early Sunday morning, leaving an 18-year-old dead, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. A dozen people were injured by gunfire during the incident.
The victim who died did not attend the university, Tuskegee University spokeswoman Thonnia Leea said in a statement. Read more
