The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority on Monday said a containerised truck killed a female biker in the Sifax inward Iganmu Bridge area of the state.

It was gathered that the truck driver lost control of the vehicle while in motion and the truck fell on a female biker while descending the Bridge.

LASTMAโ€™s Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq revealed this in a statement via the authorityโ€™s official X handle.

The statement partly read, โ€œEarly this morning, operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other emergency responders recovered the body of a female biker trapped under a loaded containerised truck in Lagos.

โ€œPreliminary investigations revealed that the truck driver, who was speeding, lost control and caused the truck to fall on the female biker. The driver fled the scene upon realising the severity of the accident.โ€

The Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Transportation, Sola Giwa, confirmed that the incident occurred at approximately 6:15 am, noting that โ€œimmediately after the incident, LASTMA personnel called in other emergency responders including the LASEMA Response Unit (LRU), for a rescue operation.

Giwa said the Lagos State Ambulance Service had taken away the deceasedโ€™s body. At the same time, the containerised truck was evacuated to clear the way for free vehicular movement on Iganmu Bridge.

He also added that police officers have been deployed to ensure security during the rescue operation.

The governorโ€™s aide commiserated with the deceasedโ€™s family and โ€œwarned truck drivers to adhere to speed limits both within and outside the state.โ€ (Punch)
