The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority on Monday said a containerised truck killed a female biker in the Sifax inward Iganmu Bridge area of the state.
It was gathered that the truck driver lost control of the vehicle while in motion and the truck fell on a female biker while descending the Bridge.
LASTMAโs Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq revealed this in a statement via the authorityโs official X handle.
The statement partly read, โEarly this morning, operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other emergency responders recovered the body of a female biker trapped under a loaded containerised truck in Lagos.
โPreliminary investigations revealed that the truck driver, who was speeding, lost control and caused the truck to fall on the female biker. The driver fled the scene upon realising the severity of the accident.โ
The Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Transportation, Sola Giwa, confirmed that the incident occurred at approximately 6:15 am, noting that โimmediately after the incident, LASTMA personnel called in other emergency responders including the LASEMA Response Unit (LRU), for a rescue operation.
Giwa said the Lagos State Ambulance Service had taken away the deceasedโs body. At the same time, the containerised truck was evacuated to clear the way for free vehicular movement on Iganmu Bridge.
He also added that police officers have been deployed to ensure security during the rescue operation.
The governorโs aide commiserated with the deceasedโs family and โwarned truck drivers to adhere to speed limits both within and outside the state.โ (Punch)
