A truck loaded with cows being conveyed to Enugu from Wudil has somersaulted on Maiduguri road flyover in Kano.
It was learnt that the truck was loaded with 28 cows, sheep, onions and dates.
One of the passengers on board the truck, Hashim Rabiu Tamburawa, told Daily Trust that the truck had left Wudil for Enugu, but on reaching the flyover at Hotoro, the vehicle somersaulted. Read more
Housewife remanded for alleged self-kidnap(Vanguard)
An Abeokuta Magistrates Court on Friday remanded a 32-year-woman Rahmat Abdulateef for allegedly arranging a kidnap for herself to extract money from her husband.
The defendant, whose plea was not taken by the court, was arraigned on a one-count charge of self-kidnapping.
The Police counsel, Insp Adekunle Opayemi told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 20 at about 2:42 p.m. at Elite Road in Abeokuta. Read more
Lagos police nab man with pistol, expended cartridge in Agege(Sun)
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, Toibu Hassan, for illegal possession of a firearm in the Agege area of the state.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Benjamin Hundeyin disclosed this in an X post.
Hundeyin said the suspect was arrested at 6 am today under the Agege Pen-Cinema bridge by officers from Elere Division. Read more
2 persons rescued in Abuja building collapse (Channels)
Two persons have been rescued from a collapsed building at Close 10, Drive 5, Second Gate at the Prince and Princess Estate at the Gudu District in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Head of Public Affairs at the FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD), Nkechi Isa, on Saturday.
She noted that Acting Director General of FEMD, Mrs Florence Wenegieme, confirmed that all the workers evacuated the building as soon as they saw signs that the building was going to collapse. Read more

UNESCO finds Islamic State group-era bombs in Mosul mosque walls, years after the defeat of IS (ABC)
The U.N. cultural agency has discovered five bombs hidden within the walls of the historic al-Nouri Mosque in the city of Mosul in northern Iraq, a remnant of the Islamic State militant group’s rule over the area, UNESCO said in a statement Saturday.
The mosque, famous for its 12th-century leaning minaret, was destroyed by IS in 2017 and has been a focal point of UNESCO’s restoration efforts since 2020.
The U.N. agency said that five large-scale explosive devices, designed for significant destruction, were found inside the southern wall of the Prayer Hall on Tuesday. Read more

Families who lost loved ones in the Robb Elementary School shooting in Uvalde, Texas, said the Thursday arrest of former school district police chief Pete Arredondo is not a “happy moment” and are calling for more indictments.
Arredondo, 52, was arrested on an indictment charging him with 10 counts of abandoning/endangering a child in connection with the May 24, 2022, school shooting that killed 19 children and two teachers. Another 17 people were injured.
Those 10 counts are in connection with school children who survived the shooting, but were delayed in receiving care and protection. Read more
