Turkey pulls out of Libya crisis talks (Punch)

Turkey pulled out of Italian-hosted Libya crisis talks on Tuesday after it was not invited to a meeting of key players on the conference sidelines, saying it was โ€œdeeply disappointedโ€.

โ€œAny meeting which excludes Turkey would prove to be counter-productive for the solution of this problem,โ€ Turkish Vice-President Fuat Oktay said in a statement.

โ€œThe informal meeting held this morning with a number of players and having them presented as the prominent protagonists of the Mediterranean is a very misleading and damaging approach which we vehemently oppose,โ€ Oktay said.

Eastern Libyan strongman Khalifa Haftar joined several other key national and international players for talks on the sidelines of the Palermo conference aimed at stabilising the crisis-stricken North African nation. Read more
