Two men jailed six months for stealing iron poles (Punch)

Two men, Isaac Michael, 24, and Shittu Sanni, 22, were on Tuesday sentenced to six months imprisonment each by an Igbosere Magistrate Court sitting in Tinubu, Lagos Island, for stealing scaffolding iron poles belonging to a hotel.

Magistrate Gbajumo Ayoku handed down the jail term after both men pleaded guilty to the two-count charge of conspiracy, attempt to commit felony and stealing.

During the proceedings, the prosecutor, Inspector Cyriacus Osuji, told the court that the incident occurred on July 13, 2025, at about 1:45 p.m., at No. 13B, Elegba Festival Drive, Oniru Estate, Victoria Island. (Read more)

Police arrest Lagos socialite over alleged N477 million land fraud (TheNation)

Police operatives at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Alagbon, have arrested a popular socialite over his alleged involvement in a N447 million land fraud.

The suspect, Olaseni Johnson Olayinka alias Abu Abel, was arrested during an operation led by CSP Taiwo Oyewole at a residence in Victoria Island where he was allegedly hiding.

It was gathered that the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) in charge of FCID, Mrs Margaret Ochalla ordered Olayinka’s arrest following a petition by Doyin Investment Group of Companies. (Read more)

NDLEA arrests Chinese bizman with drugs in Lagos (Punch)

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has disclosed that its operatives arrested a Chinese national, Liang Tak You, with 50 parcels of Loud upon his arrival at the Muritala Muhammed Airport, Lagos State.

The agency, in a statement on Sunday by its  Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, noted that Liang was arrested on Friday after arriving in Nigeria from Bangkok, the capital of Thailand.

Babafemi continued, “The suspect, who arrived in Nigeria from Bangkok via Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on an Emirates Airline flight, is a Chinese national, naturalised and based in Malaysia, but flew to Thailand where he picked up two suitcases filled with 50 parcels of Loud weighing 26.10kg before heading to Nigeria via the UAE. Lagos court remands 5 suspected fraudsters (Punch)

Five suspected fraudsters, Amaike Nelson, Kenneth Opuana, Oguntade Olusegun, Ogologo Obi, Goodluck Abel, and Oluwafunmilayo Adebimpe, who specialised in swindling unsuspecting members of the public under the pretence of selecting a “lucky number” in exchange for a non-existent mobile phone, have been remanded by a Lagos court.

This was contained in a statement by the Director of Public Affairs of the Lago State Task Force, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, on Sunday.

According to Abdulraheem, the suspects were arrested after they allegedly swindled a 19-year-old lady of her phone and personal belongings using fraudulent tactics. (Read more)

Man shot dead during food purchase in Lagos (Punch)

A yet-to-be-identified man has been killed by gunmen at Ojo-Igbede in the Ojo area of Lagos State. PUNCH Metro learnt that the incident occurred on Saturday, July 19.

Our correspondent gathered that the victim had stepped out to buy a plate of food from a vendor in the community when two men on a motorcycle approached him.

An eyewitness who craved anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the incident told our correspondent on Saturday that the two unidentified assailants who wore caps forced the deceased victim to kneel and shot him in the process. (Read more)

Fake customs officer arraigned after scamming victims N34m (Punch)

A 59-year-old woman, Rakiyat Musa, was on Thursday arraigned before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court sitting at Tinubu, Lagos Island, for allegedly impersonating a Nigerian Customs officer and obtaining over N34, 116,000, under pretence.

Musa, who appeared before Magistrate B. I. Amos, is facing a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, obtaining by false pretence, stealing, impersonation, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

During the arraignment, the prosecutor, Inspector Cyriacus Osuji, told the court that the defendant, alongside others still at large, conspired to defraud unsuspecting victims between April and July 2025. (Read more)

Panic as cult clash claims life in Lagos (Punch)

There was palpable tension in the Omi-Ata area of Meiran, Lagos State, after some suspected cultists attacked and killed a rival member identified simply as Rahman.

PUNCH Metro learnt on Thursday from a resident who pleaded anonymity because of the nature of the incident that the clash happened on Monday when the armed men stormed the area and trailed the victim to his family’s house located in the area.

The resident noted that Rahman, upon sighting the armed men, escaped from the house and ran into another house in the area, but the attackers trailed him to the hideout and hacked him to death. (Read mpre)

Man remanded for alleged impersonation, forgery (Punch)

A man, Musiliu Musa Awoga, also known as Ajingolo, has been remanded in the custody of a correctional centre for allegedly impersonating the traditional ruler of Igbooye  Kingdom in Epe, Lagos State and forging a Supreme Court judgment.

Awoga, who is the first defendant in the case, was arraigned alongside three others, Olamilekan Awoga, Hassan Adefala, and Moses Awoga, before Chief Magistrate Jimoh Adefioye of the Oshodi Magistrates’ Court sitting at the Lagos State Task Force office.

The defendants were charged with 13 counts bordering on forgery, impersonation, breach of public peace, and assaulting police officers, among other offences. (Read more)

3 in police custody for stabbing Lagos man to death (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested three suspects for stabbing a man, identified as Scoro, to death during a public brawl in the Lagos Island area of the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this exclusively to PUNCH Metro on Wednesday. Our correspondent learnt that the incident happened on Tuesday when Scoro was attacked by a group of guys who were attempting a reprisal on another group over a dispute related to building ownership.

An anti-cultism advocacy page on X, NaijaConfra, who shared details of the incident on Wednesday noted that a group had attacked another and in the process of a reprisal, Scoro was stabbed to death. (Read more)
