Social Media Week Lagos 2019 was amazing! From the schedule, we knew we were going to have loads of fun but even our already high expectations were surpassed with some exciting panels that blew our minds away.
One, in particular, stood out. The ‘Own Your Journey to Success’ panel hosted by Gulder, featured the likes of Nonso Bassey, Uti Nwachukwu, Oreka Godis as well as Gulder Brand manager – Kolawole Akintimehin, and Media Manager for Nigerian breweries Toheeb Azeez.
The session featured so many great moments making it one of the most memorable panels from the week-long event.
Here are some of the key quotes from the session, that we just can’t get over.
“Know Yourself no dey kill person” – Uti Nwachukwu
Many times during this session, Uti got the crowd going, and one of these was when he quoted an old Delta proverb – Know yourself no dey kill person. This cracked up the crowd, and Uti went on to explain his point urging the attendees to always prioritize self-discovery. This was a key message which resonated with the audience and also tied into the new brand position of sponsors of the panel- Gulder.
“I used to be so scared to chase my dreams due to my upbringing” – Nonso Bassey
Actor, Musician, and model Nonso Bassey dropped a bombshell on the day, as the entertainer who often oozes ultra confidence spoke of his initial fears at chasing his dreams. He even shared his experience with his strict father who wanted him to go through science class and study ICT. The story reflected a side of Nonso that fans may never have seen and made the fashion icon even more relatable.
“Don’t follow trends, be the trend” – Uti Nwachukwu.
This was one of the highlights of the panel discussion when Uti belted this epic line. This inspired a round of applause from the crowd and its the line that will probably stay with the audience long after SMW 2019. The point being made by Uti is also very important, as more young people need to learn to be trendsetters and not just followers.
“You have to know your yourself, know your strength, and own your journey, or else people will decide your path for you.” – Toheeb Azeez.
The Media Manager for Nigerian breweries closed out the session with a remarkable quote that left everyone thinking. The line encapsulated all that was discussed in the panel and provided perfect context to the Gulder storytelling in which the conversation was themed around.
The line encouraged all in attendance to stay true to themselves and decide who they want to be, in order to avoid becoming mediocre in life.
These were just some of the highlights from one of the more memorable panel conversation from social media week 2019.
If this is the beginning of more exciting initiatives like this by Gulder, then we certainly are here for it.
