US court orders FBI, anti-drug agencies to release Tinubu’s records (Guardian)

Judge Beryl Howell of the US District Court for the District of Columbia has ordered top law enforcement agencies to release the records of President Bola Tinubu to the public.

According to Howell, protecting the information from public disclosure is “neither logical nor plausible.”

He gave the order in response to a motion by one Aaron Greenspan who had accused the law enforcement agencies of violating the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Read more 

NDLEA destroys largest drugs seizure of 1.6m kilograms (Channels)

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said it has destroyed heaps of illicit drugs weighing about 1.6 million kilograms of assorted illicit substances seized across Lagos, Ogun and Oyo state, in what is till date the largest volume of seizures to be set ablaze at a time in the history of the Agency.

A statement by its Director, Media & Advocacy, Femi Babafemi in Abuja on Saturday, said the destruction of the illicit substances was witnessed by representatives of government officials, traditional rulers, clergymen, other security agencies, international partners, NGOs and community leaders, among others.

It said the activity was conducted at an isolated location at Ipara, along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, Ogun state, on Saturday, 12th April 2025. Read more 

Army decries poor Igbo youths’ enlistment in military service (Vanguard)

The Nigerian Army has raised alarm over the poor enlistment of South East youths into military service, and called for a change of attitude to reverse the trend.

According to the Army, while Kaduna State has recorded over 3,000 applications in the ongoing 2025 recruitment exercise, Enugu State is still struggling with just a hundred.

While noting that the story was not different with other South East states, the leader of 2025 Army recruitment enlightenment team, Brigadier-General Chima Ekeator urged Enugu and Southeast youths to apply in their numbers in the ongoing recruitment to fill their quotas. Read more

Amid rising political undercurrents barely two years into his first term, President Bola Tinubu has issued a stern cease-and-desist order to supporters and groups promoting a premature campaign for his re-election in 2027.

The Presidency on Sunday, through a statement signed by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, expressed deep concern over a growing number of billboards and other campaign materials surfacing in key cities, including Abuja and Kano, projecting Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for the next presidential race.

The directive comes as the political climate across the country begins to simmer, despite the 2027 general elections being over two years away and no official timetable yet released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Read more

Victim of Lagos CCTV shop explosion dies (Punch)

One of the five victims injured in Friday’s explosion at a CCTV dealer’s shop on Kodesho Street, near Computer Village in the Ikeja area of Lagos State, has died.

A dealer in the popular tech hub told PUNCH Online on Sunday that the victim succumbed to injuries on Saturday.

Nigerian Navy raises fraud alarm, warns investors against swindlers (ThisDay)

The Nigerian Navy has raised a fraud alarm, warning prospective investors in its properties at Lake View Estate, Navy Town Asokoro, to beware of swindlers pretending to be its commissioned third-party agents online. 

A statement by the Public Relations Officer of Navy Holdings Limited (NHL), Commander Abdulsalam Sani, explained that NHL has not engaged the services of any third party as an agent to facilitate sales of its land or property. He stated that NHL, being the sole owner of Navy lands, deals directly with its subscribers.

According to him, “The attention of Navy Holdings Limited (NHL) has been drawn to a trending video on some online platforms, featuring unscrupulous elements attempting to swindle unsuspecting Nigerians out of their hard-earned money regarding its properties at Lake View Estate, Navy Town Asokoro. The NHL wishes to state that it has not engaged the services of any third-party agent to facilitate sales of its land or property. As the sole owner of Navy lands, the NHL deals directly with its subscribers; therefore, it advises potential subscribers not to engage with individuals posing as agents.” Read more

Convalescing Pope Francis opens Holy Week with appearance at St. Peter’s Square (CBS)

A convalescing Pope Francis made a surprise in-person appearance when he greeted the crowd in St. Peter’s Square on Palm Sunday, another reassuring sign of his recovery from a life-threatening battle with double pneumonia.

After many years of impassioned calls for an Oscar recognizing the art of the stunt, the film academy has decided to give it an official award.

An achievement in stunt design prize will be added starting with the 100th Academy Awards, which will recognize films released in 2027, the film academy said on Thursday.

“Since the early days of cinema, stunt design has been an integral part of film-making,” the Academy’s CEO, Bill Kramer, and president, Janet Yang, said in a joint statement. “We are proud to honor the innovative work of these technical and creative artists, and we congratulate them for their commitment and dedication in reaching this momentous occasion.” Read more

TV presenter Davina McCall has said her “final MRI” shows her benign brain tumour was removed in full during surgery and is “not coming back”.

The Bodyguard remake coming from Taylor Swift: Eras Tour director (Variety)

Warner Bros. is planning to remake The Bodyguard with Sam Wrench on board to direct. Wrench directed the box office smash Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour.  Jonathan Abrams, who debuted as a feature screenwriter with Clint Eastwood’s courtroom drama Juror #2  last fall, has been tapped to pen the script. No casting decisions have been set.

The news was revealed by Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy, the co-heads of the Warner Bros. Pictures Group, in an interview with Deadline.

Aside from directing The Eras Tour, Wrench has oft toed the line between the film and music industries, helming Laufey’s A Night at the Symphony: Hollywood Bowl  and A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter, as well as concert docs for stars like BTS, Billie Eilish and Lizzo. Read more

Professional boxing returned to Cuba last night with the Agon Sports Cuban Fight Night at the 5-star Hotel Melia International in Varadero.

Montenegro heavyweight Dilan Prasovic, 18-6 (15 KOs), came close to an upset in the headliner when he knocked down Julio De La Cruz, 4-0 (4 KOs), in the second round with a left cross. But De La Cruz got up and knocked out Prasovic with devastating body punches in the third and won this WBA bridgerweight final eliminator. In total, Prasovic was down once in the second and three times in the third.
