The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has urged Nigerians to allow the agency to carry out its duties without distraction or undue speculation, following widespread public reactions to the arrest and investigation of popular social media personality, Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan.
The EFCC clarified that the decision to arrest VeryDarkMan was not influenced by his repeated attacks on the commission but rather by a series of petitions alleging financial malfeasance. Despite several invitations, VeryDarkMan refused to cooperate with the investigation.
The commission emphasised that its mandate is to tackle economic and financial crimes, and VeryDarkMan’s case will be handled based on the merits of the allegations against him. The EFCC has obtained a remand order and has offered VeryDarkMan administrative bail, which he will be released on once he fulfills the conditions.
The EFCC appreciates the public’s interest in its operations but urges Nigerians to refrain from speculating about its motives. The commission assures that it will file charges once investigations are concluded. (Vanguard)
