Vera Pauw has named a 28-strong Ireland squad for the upcoming Women’s World Cup qualifying play-off on Tuesday October 11.
Niamh Farrelly’s Italian job has paid off as she has earned a recall.
The 23-year-old midfielder left Glasgow City for Serie A outfit Parma this season but with Pauw missing key midfielders for their World Cup tussle in October, the Lucan woman might get a chance to add to her four caps.
As expected, injuries have ruled out four players – Megan Connolly, Ruesha Littlejohn, Ellen Molloy and Leanne Kiernan – who featured in the final stages of the regular qualification campaign.
Strikers Kiernan and Molloy were recently struck down in untimely fashion while on club duty.
Savannah McCarthy and Aoife Colvill are also ruled out through injury.
There are expected recalls to the squad for Farrelly, Roma McLaughlin, Isibeal Atkinson and Kyra Carusa, while Niamh Fahey and Jamie Finn return after missing the win over Slovakia that helped Ireland finish second in Group A.
Ireland will be away to either Scotland or Austria, who play each other on Thursday October 6, in a bid to qualify for the World Cup for the first time.
The squad will depart Dublin on Sunday October 9 with the destination set for either Glasgow or Vienna. (IrishIndependent)
