Senior Pastor of House on the Rock Church, Paul Adefarasin, has turned himself in to the Lagos State Police Command following the circulation of a viral video allegedly showing him holding a firearm during an encounter with a content creator on a Lagos road.

This was disclosed to our correspondent via WhatsApp by the spokesperson of the State Command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin.

Recall that a video clip emerged online last week showing Pastor Adefarasin holding a metallic object while speaking to a passerby who was recording him. Read more 

Police inspector shot dead by 10-year-old son in Anambra (Punch)

A tragic incident occurred in Awka, the Anambra State capital, on Sunday, when a 10-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed his father, a Police Inspector, identified as Okolie Amechi, with the officer’s service AK-47 rifle.

PUNCH Metro gathered on Monday that the bullet also hit the officer’s second son, Emmanuel, in the hand, in a chaotic scene that occurred due to accidental discharge at the deceased’s residence.

The boy was said to be fondling the AK-47 rifle assigned to the police officer, when he mistakenly pulled the trigger and the bullet struck the officer on the back and also hit his sibling on the hand. Read more 

EFCC arraigns director over alleged N13.8b investment fraud (Guardian)

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate, has arraigned Precious Williams, director of Glossolalia Nigeria Ltd and Pelegend Nigeria Ltd, before Justice S. I. Mark of the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Williams is facing a 14-count bordering on conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretence, advance fee fraud, and money laundering to the tune of N13.8 billion. The charges stem from her alleged involvement in a fraudulent investment scheme linked to MBA Trading and Capital Investment Limited.

One of the charges read, “That you, Precious Williams of Glossolalia Nigeria Limited; Pelegend Nigeria Limited, Phenom 413 Events Limited (company representative at large), and Doxasterz Oil and Gas Limited, sometime between August 24, 2019, and February 15, 2020, at Port Harcourt, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, directly took possession of the sum of Ten Billion Naira (N10,000,000,000.00) only from Maxwell Chizi Odum (still at large) and MBA Trading and Capital Investment Limited (at large) through your Sterling Bank PLC Account… when you reasonably ought to have known that the said funds formed part of the proceeds of unlawful activities.” Read more

FG moves to close $2.3t infrastructure gap through PPP (Channels)

The Federal Government says it is targeting to close the infrastructure gap in Nigeria through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement.

Assassination claim: Court refuses move to arrest Senator Natasha, orders service of papers (DailyTrust)

A Federal High Court in Abuja has rejected an application by the federal government seeking to arrest Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan following an alleged assassination claim.

Justice Muhammed Umar on Monday ruled that Akpoti-Uduaghan has not been served with the charges in person after the prosecution counsel David Kaswe informed the court that her counsel had been served.

While moving for a bench warrant to be issued on Akpoti-Uduaghan, Kaswe submitted that she ought to be aware of the matter since her counsel was served. Read more 

Inflation rate drops to 22.97 per cent (Nation)

The meeting at the CBN headquarters in Abuja came as the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) released its Consumer Price Index (CPI) report showing inflation rate dropped for the second consecutive month.

The newly appointed Director General of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), Comrade Philip Shaibu, has declared that there is an urgent need to rebrand the institute for Nigeria to produce Olympic medallists.

Shaibu, who is the immediate past deputy governor of Edo State, took a facility tour of the Institute, yesterday, and expressed shock at the level of decay in parts of the Institute, which was established in 1974 to improve Nigeria’s performance in international sporting competitions.
