114 minors and adults, previously detained following #EndBadGovernance protests, have arrived the Presidential Villa on Tuesday afternoon after being discharged by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Justice Obiora Egwatu dismissed the case against them at the request of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Lateef Fagbemi, who filed the motion for their unconditional release.

Launching an intensified safety campaign, Mohammed stressed the importance of cooperation from all sectors of society, underscoring that road safety is everyone’s responsibility.

Absence of judge stalls trial of Whistleblower, PIDOM Nigeria (DailyTrust)

The absence of Justice Emeka Nwite of a Federal High Court in Abuja, on Tuesday, stalled the trial of Isaac Bristol, popularly known on his X handle as “PIDOM Nigeria.”

The matter, which was fixed for today, could not proceed because Justice Nwite is on two-week vacation leave.

The trial judge, who sat during the annual vacation between July 23 and Sept. 13, commenced the leave this week. Read more

Former President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday landed in Maiduguri, Borno State on a courtesy visit over the recent floods that claimed lives, properties and livestock across the state.

Swedish court sentences far-right politician for insulting Muslims (ABC)

 A Swedish court sentenced on Tuesday a far-right politician to four months in jail for two counts of “incitement against an ethnic group” after making hateful comments at political rallies two years ago.

The Danish-Swedish 42-year-old man, who was not named but has been identified by Swedish media as Rasmus Paludan, founder and head of the Danish nationalist anti-immigration party Stram Kurs, had been previously convicted and sentenced by a Danish court on a similar charge, the Malmo District Court said.

In 2022, Paludan, founder and head of the Danish nationalist anti-immigration party Stram Kurs, made his offensive remarks directed at Muslims, Arabs and Africans during protests that he led in the southern city of Malmo in 2022, the court said. Britain to ban smoking in playgrounds, outside schools and hospitals (UPI)

Britain’s ruling Labor administration on Tuesday brought before parliament a landmark bill that, if passed, would prohibit by law smoking in children’s playgrounds and outside schools and hospitals.

The Tobacco and Vapes Bill grants the government powers to extend an existing ban on smoking in indoor spaces to certain outdoor spaces in order to protect “children and the most vulnerable,” the Department of Health and Social Care said in a news release.

However, initial proposals to include outdoor areas in and around hospitality venues in England, including outside areas and gardens of pubs, bars and restaurants have been left out of the bill. Read more

Slavery: UK does not want ‘money transfer’ as reparation (AfricaNews)

Britain’s foreign secretary said Monday that reparations for the U.K.’s role in the slave trade are not about the “transfer of cash” and reiterated his country’s position that leans toward focusing on the future.

There have been calls from some of Britain’s former colonies for a reckoning over its role in the transatlantic slave trade, including at the recent 27th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting where leaders called for a “ meaningful, respectful and truthful ” discussion of reparatory justice.

White supremacist planned to blow up electricity station using drone laden with explosives, U.S says (NBC)

A white supremacist is accused of trying to destroy an electricity substation in Tennessee in an attempt to bring down the regional power network and disrupt American society, authorities said Monday.

Skyler Philippi, 24, of Columbia, Tennessee, was arrested after an FBI investigation found that he planned to attach a bomb to a drone and fly it into the energy facility in Nashville as part of his extremist agenda, authorities said.

Philippi is charged with the attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction and the attempted destruction of an energy facility. He appeared in court Monday and is due to appear again on Nov. 13. He remains in custody and faces possible life in prison. Read more
