WAEC admits errors in 2025 WASSCE results, to review 4 subjects (Sun)
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) on Thursday, August 7, acknowledged errors in the released results of the May/June 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and has begun the process to review the results.
The council confirmed in a statement that a review would be carried out in four core subjects: Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics.
WAEC released the results of the school examination, taken by 1,969,313 candidates across 23,554 secondary schools, on Monday, August 4, 2025. Only 754,545 candidates, representing 38.32%, obtained credits and above in a minimum of five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, marking a 33.8% decline in performance compared to the 72.12% recorded in 2024. KWAM 1 pushes back as FAAN probes airport incident (Punch)
Renowned Fuji musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1, has pushed back against allegations surrounding an incident at the Abuja airport, as the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has launched a probe into the matter.
On Wednesday, FAAN announced that it had launched an investigation into an incident involving Ayinde Marshal concerning an alleged violation of airport security rules at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. FAAN said the altercation occurred on Monday, August 5, 2025, during boarding procedures for a ValueJet Airlines flight (Flight VK 201) headed to Lagos.
According to a statement signed by Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, FAAN, Obiageli Orah, “Preliminary investigations confirmed that the passenger was scheduled to board the morning flight to Lagos operated by ValueJet Airlines (Flight VK 201). Read more
FG dismisses 15 correctional personnel for misconduct (Vanguard)
The Federal Government has dismissed 15:personnel of the Nigerian Correctional Service NCoS for serious misconduct.
Spokesman of the Service, DCC Abubakar Umar disclosed this on Thursday in Abuja.
According to him, the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board CDCFIB had concluded deliberations on 231 disciplinary cases involving personnel of the Service.
He said the cases were brought before the Board by the Disciplinary and General Purpose Committee BDGPC after extensive investigations and due process. Read more
Tinubu names Ramat as NERC chair, appoints 2 commissioners (Leadership)
President Bola Tinubu has nominated Engr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat as the new Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
Engr Ramat, 39, is an electrical engineer and administrator, with a doctorate degree in Strategic Management, among other qualifications.
According to a statement by presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, on Thursday, President Tinubu also nominated two commissioners for the NERC. Read more

Telcos alert FG to diesel shortages to 16,000 telephone sites (Guardian)
Telecommunications operators have expressed deep concerns about ongoing disruptions to the supply logistics of diesel to cell sites across the country.
The operators under the aegies of the Association of Licensed Telecom Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) in a statement, Thursday, signed by the Chairman, Gbenga Adebayo, said the body has received credible reports that members of the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and the Natural Oil and Gas Suppliers Association of Nigeria (NOGASA), on Tuesday, blocked access to diesel loading depots in Kaduna, Lagos, and Koko (Delta State), preventing the distribution of diesel to thousands of telecommunications sites operated by one of our key members, IHS Towers.
ALTON said this action, reportedly stemming from allegations by IHS of diesel misappropriation against two member companies of NOGASA and which is being investigated by the requisite authorities, has resulted in a critical threat to the operation of some of the 16,000 telecommunications sites nationwide, servicing Mobile Network Operators. Kaden Lopez was taken into custody by Phoenix police while inside PHX Arena after he allegedly threw a “green dildo” and struck a man and his 9-year-old niece during Tuesday’s contest between the Mercury and Sun, FOX 10 Phoenix reported on Wednesday night.
Lopez was booked on suspicion of disorderly conduct, assault and public display of explicit sexual material and appeared in court on Wednesday. Read more
