Father, carpenter arrested for defiling daughter, six-year-old in Lagos (Punch)
Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a commercial motorcyclist, Johnson Okon, 58, for allegedly defiling his 14-year-old daughter in the Ikorodu area of the state.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, said during a press briefing on Tuesday that the victim’s mother did not believe her daughter when she informed her of the incident, adding that the mother’s inaction prompted the victim to seek refuge in Okon friend’s house…
Similarly, a carpenter, Habib Abdullahi, 64, has also been arrested for defiling a six-year-old girl in Ikorodu, Lagos.
The CP, who paraded the suspect, said the mother of the victim informed the command of the incident, adding that the outcome of the investigation conducted revealed that the suspect took the victim into his room and sexually abused her. Read more
Teenager allegedly steals N1.3m from blind neighbour (Vanguard)
A chief magistrate’s court in Yaba, Lagos, Wednesday, remanded a teenager who allegedly stole an ATM card belonging to his blind neighbour and withdrew N1.3 million from his account.
Chief Magistrate K.B. Ayeye, ordered that 17-year-old Tobi Aruna should be kept at the Borstal Juvenile Training Institute in Adigbe, Abeokuta, pending the trial of the case.
She adjourned the case until January 28. Read more
Police arrest six for allegedly destroying campaign posters (Guardian)
Operatives of the Lagos State police command Sunday arrested six persons allegedly caught pulling down campaign posters of others political parties’ candidates and replacing them with that of the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore.
The suspects are now being detained at the Ikeja police station. According to Lagos police spokesman, Chike Oti, “the Anti-crime patrol team of the state command, Ikeja Division, at about 2:30am yesterday arrested six young men, namely Olagokun Odunayo, Kool-kloud Henry, Ugaju Joseph, Damilola Omidiji, Michael Kate and Banwo Olagokun, of ‘Take It Back’ movement, tearing posters of other political parties and replacing them with that of the African Action Congress (AAC) contrary to the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA) laws that forbade advertisers from pasting posters at no other hour than day time…” Read more
Lagos pastor defiles church member’s twin daughters (Punch)
The Assistant Pastor of the Anointed Chosen Vessel Ministry, Okota, Lagos, Mike Oliseh, has been detained at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, for allegedly defiling the 12-year-old twin daughters of a church member and close friend.
Punch Metro gathered that while 54-year-old Oliseh allegedly penetrated the private parts of the first victim, he allegedly inserted his fingers in the private parts of the twin sister.
Our correspondent learnt that Oliseh, an indigene of Delta State, and the girls’ father, Okoro (not real name), lived on Ago Palace Way, Okota, Lagos State. Read more
Man in court over allegation of stealing 6 buses, 15 car engines (Vanguard)
A 49-year-old man, Benanian Nwuguru, who allegedly stole six mini-buses and 16 fairly used vehicle engines valued at N15 million, was Wednesday arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court.
The defendant, whose address was not given, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing, preferred against him by the police.
Nwuguru and others at large were alleged to have committed the offence sometime in 2014, at Apapa, Lagos. Read more
8 men face trial for alleged cultism, breach of peace (Guardian)
Eight suspected cult members, who allegedly disturbed public peace by attacking themselves, on Monday, appeared before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The accused are, Edward Akpanke, 24; Francis Effiong, 28; Israel Nwankwo, 36; Seun Ogundare, 28; Jadesinoni Amzat, 33; Emmanuel Okon, 29; Segun Olawunmi, 50; and Tunde Omodara, 40.
The men, who are facing a two-count charge of breach of pubic peace and membership of a secret society, however, pleaded not guilty. Read more
Trader arrested for possessing counterfeit dollars, pounds (Punch)
A 30-year-old trader, Eunice Okpani, has been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for being in possession of counterfeit $115,000 and £460.
The accused, whose residential address was given as 7 Benji Phase 2, Ilese, Ogun State, is being charged for spending fake money valued at N42 million.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Akeem Raji, told the court that the accused committed the offence on November 13, 2018, around 10.40am at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. Read more
