Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Friday said his administration would go back to the people of the state on whether to return the monthly sanitation exercise.
Sanwo-Olu said this during a visit to the Olusosun dumpsite in Ojota area of the state, in company with his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat.
The State Government had in November 2016 cancelled the monthly environmental sanitation exercise held every last Saturday of the month. Read more

Senate: N11tn Spent on Fuel Subsidy in Six Years (ThisDay)
The Senate Thursday disclosed that the federal government spent not less than N11 trillion on fuel subsidy in the last six years.
The Senate also approved the payment of N129,048,358,444.11 as final subsidy arrears payment to 67 oil marketing companies.
It also yesterday adjourned sitting till June 6 when the National Assembly is billed to hold its valedictory session. Read more
Father of three arrested for defiling 15-year-old Lagos pupil (Punch)
A businessman at Ladipo Market, Lagos State, Mr Charles Okpara, has been arrested by the police for allegedly defiling a Junior Secondary School 2 pupil.
Okpara, who resides in Casso Alagbado area of the state, is said to be a tenant of the girl’s father, Segun.
City Round learnt that the girl, 15, wanted to have a bath at the backyard on May 12, 2019 around 9pm when the 34-year-old father of three went to the place and held her hostage. Read more
LASPOTECH student jilted by girlfriend commits suicide (Punch)
A student at the Department of Hospitality Management Technology, Lagos State Polytechnic, Ezekiel Mayowa, has killed himself after he was reportedly dumped by his girlfriend.
The corpse of the 34-year-old part-time student was discovered in his residence at Eyita, Ikorodu, around 5am on Friday. He was said to have taken a poisonous substance suspected to be Sniper.
Moments before he committed suicide, Mayowa posted a video on Facebook, explaining why he took the decision. Read more

Over 20 Billion sticks of cigarettes consumed yearly in Nigeria (Guardian)
Over 1.1 billion adult smoke tobacco worldwide and at least 367 million persons use smokeless tobacco products. Of this number, eight million die annually through the effect of tobacco of which over six million are by direct use and about 890,000 by exposure to second-hand smoke.
Over 20 billion sticks of cigarettes are consumed annually in Nigeria even as 15.4% of school children ages 13 – 15 years currently use tobacco in the country. Read more
