Nigerian government refutes ministerial list reports (Guardian)
The Nigerian government Tuesday denied it has sent names of ministerial nominees to the country’s Senate for approval. President Muhammadu Buhari was sworn in over a month ago and it was believed that he would send names of nominees to the Senate after the lawmakers resumed from a two-week break. 10m Nigerian children are out of School, says Senate President Lawan (Punch)
The President of the Senate, Senator Ahmed Lawan has decried the glowing population of Nigerian children who are currently out of school, which he said stood at 10 million. Lawan said this on Tuesday while reading his welcome address at the plenary. He said that the issue of children dropping out of schools was a concern to him as a former university lecturer and to the ninth Senate, saying that efforts would be made to address the challenge. IPOB hails US, Canada over Kanu’s foreign tour security (Nation)
The Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) has expressed appreciation to the police in the United States of America and Canada for providing security to their leader, Nnamdi Kanu during his tour in the countries. The group also thanked Biafran veterans present at Atlanta Georgia, Toronto Canada, Houston Texas, Chicago and New York City, for their contributions to the success of the tour. A statement on Tuesday by the group’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, disclosed that Kanu’s next meeting would be in Switzerland and France, before hitting Japan and Australia. Fayose pleads not guilty to fraud, money laundering charges (Guardian)
Former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, Tuesday pleaded not guilty to alleged fraud after he was re-arraigned at the Federal High Court in Lagos. Fayose, who was arraigned before Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke, was also charged alongside his company, Spotless Investment Ltd for the N6.9 billion fraud case. Defence counsel, Ola Olanipekun, applied for the temporary release of the accused’s international passport, to enable him to travel abroad for medical treatment. Read more

Imo State governor, Emeka Ihedioha, has enjoined civil servants in the state to assist the government in generating revenue to meet its obligations. The Imo governor, who addressed the workers during an unscheduled visit to the secretariat, observed that all activities relating to Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in the State is shrouded in scam. Oyo is technically bankrupt, says Makinde (Nation)
Just two days after declaring that the state is indebted to the tune of at least N150billion, Governor Seyi Makinde on Tuesday said the state government is technically bankrupt with his administration still looking at ways to salvage the situation and run the government. US jails Rwandan for hiding genocide involvement from immigration (BBC)
A Rwandan man who hid his involvement in the 1994 genocide has been sentenced to eight years in jail. Jean Leonard Teganya committed “the most serious form of immigration fraud” by “lying about his status as a war criminal to win asylum,” US Attorney Andrew E Lelling said in a statement. In just 100 days in 1994, about 800,000 people were slaughtered in Rwanda by ethnic Hutu extremists. Read more
18 dead, four missing in attack on Niger army camp (Guardian)
Eighteen soldiers were killed when “terrorists” struck an army camp in western Niger, the government said Tuesday, adding the US and France had provided air support to help repel the assault. The attack took place on Monday afternoon at a camp at Inates on the border with Mali, the defence ministry said in a statement. Four soldiers were listed as missing. Niger, one of the world’s poorest countries, lies in the heart of the fragile Sahel region, which is battling an Islamist insurgency. Read more
Russia: Fire kills 14 sailors aboard navy research submersible (BBC)
A fire aboard a Russian navy research submersible has killed 14 crew members, the Russian defence ministry says. The crew were poisoned by fumes as the vessel was taking measurements in Russian territorial waters on Monday. The ministry gave no details about the type of vessel. Ammy Ninje, the Technical Director of Tanzania Football Federation (TFF), says Emmanuel Amuneke will be retained as the coach of that country’s national team.
