A 27-year-old man who was arrested for allegedly attacking and killing his mother-in-law in the bush has confessed to local vigilante group why he committed the crime.
The young man known as Yayu Musa, who fled to neighbouring village after the incidence but was traced and arrested, said he committed the crime because his mother in-law has been threatening to deprived him of marrying her daughter Umi Idris.
The suspect whose confessional statement was recorded in video said, “I was angered into killing my mother in-law because she wanted to deprived me from marrying her daughter”. Read more
Prioritise 2027 elections over bus stop renaming – Charly Boy tells Nigerians (Nation)
Veteran musician and activist, Charly Boy, has called on Nigerians to prioritise the upcoming 2027 general elections over controversies such as renaming of the Charly Boy Bus Stop in Gbagada, Lagos.
The bus stop was recently renamed “Olamide Baddo Bus Stop” after rapper and music executive Olamide Adedeji.
Charly Boy, in an interview on Channels TV, expressed indifference to the name change, emphasising that recognition should be given to individuals who have made meaningful contributions to their communities. Read more

Some Ghanaians have protested against Nigerians for allegedly engaging in mass prostitution and ritual killings in their country.
In a viral video on Tuesday, the protesters in their large numbers, were seen wielding placards with various inscriptions such as “Armed robbery and violent attacks must stop; “Our health at stake due to mass prostitution; “Who protects the right and freedom of Ghanaians; “Nigerians are kidnapping and using people for rituals; “Our kids are getting missing because of Igbos,” among others.
They also displayed a picture of a man who was allegedly killed by a Nigerian in the Accra area of the country. Read more
Liver cancer to double worldwide, most of it preventable – Study (Vanguard)
The number of people with liver cancer will nearly double worldwide by 2050 unless more is done to address preventable causes such as obesity, alcohol consumption and hepatitis, a study warned Tuesday.
New cases of liver cancer — the sixth most common form of the disease — will rise to 1.52 million a year from 870,000 if current trends continue, according to data from the Global Cancer Observatory published in the Lancet medical journal.
It is also the third deadliest of all cancers, with the study predicting it would take 1.37 million lives by the middle of the century. Read more
FG records bullish investors demand in July’s ₦186b bond auction (Channels)
The Debt Management Office (DMO) has announced the completion of its Federal Government bond auction, with about ₦186 billion allotted across two reopened bond offerings.
According to figures released on the DMO website, the auction fetched ₦39.075 billion in total subscriptions for the 5-Year FGN APR 2029 bond and an impressive ₦261.597 billion for the 7-Year FGN JUN 2032 bond.
Out of these bids, the DMO allotted ₦13.430 billion for the APR 2029 bond and ₦172.502 billion for the JUN 2032 bond—amounting to a total allotment of about ₦185.932 billion, well over the initial offer size. Read more

First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Tuesday donated N1 billion to victims of armed invaders attack in Yelwata community of Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
Our correspondent reports that over 100 people were reportedly killed in the night of June 13 and early hours of June 14, 2025 in the rural Yelwata community, prompting the First Lady’s donation to help survivors rebuild their lives.
Mrs Tinubu who made the donation during a condolence visit to the state, held at the New Banquet Hall of the Government House, Makurdi, also pledged support from the Renewed Hope Initiative to address cross-border attacks and ensure affected children return to school. Read more

The gunman who opened fire inside a New York City skyscraper that is home to the NFL’s headquarters on Monday reportedly left a suicide note saying he suffered from Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and wanted his brain to be studied.
The shooting took place in a Manhattan skyscraper where the headquarters of both the NFL and Blackstone, one of the world’s largest investment firms, are located.
Authorities said the gunman, identified as 27-year-old Shane Devon Tamura of Las Vegas, killed four people, including New York City police officer Didarul Islam, and wounded a fifth. The gunman died by suicide, officials said. Read more

An alert issued by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) says there is mounting evidence that widespread starvation, malnutrition and disease are driving a rise in hunger-related deaths among the 2.1 million Palestinians there.

22 killed in Russian overnight attacks; Ukraine prison, hospital hit (UPI)
Russian forces overnight attacked dozens of Ukrainian cities, striking a correctional facility in Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region and a hospital in Kamianske, killing at least 22 people and injuring 85 others, officials said Tuesday.
President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine announced the death toll in a statement Tuesday, saying that overnight that Russia attacked 73 Ukrainian cities and villages.
Both Andriy Yermak, the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, and Ivan Fedorov, the governor of Zaporizhzhia, in southeastern Ukraine, confirmed the attack on the correctional facility. Read more
