Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has resigned his membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect.

In a letter dated July 14, 2025, and addressed to the Chairman PDP, Jada 1 Ward Jada LGA Adamawa State, Atiku said his resignation is due to irreconcilable differences that have emerged in the former ruling party.

He noted that he found it necessary to part ways due to the current trajectory the party has taken, which according to him, diverges from the foundational principles it stood for. Read more 

27 farmers killed in fresh Plateau attack (Punch)

At least 27 farmers, including men and women, have been reportedly killed in a fresh attack by gunmen in Bindi-Jebbu of the Tahoss community in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Villagers said the attack, which occurred on Monday, also left many people injured, with several rushed to hospitals, including the Jos University Teaching Hospital and Plateau Hospital.

The chairman of Riyom LGA, Bature Sati Shuwa, acknowledged the incident but could not give the casualty figure as of press time, saying he was on his way to the attacked community. Read more 

NSCDC completes sign language training for 250 personnel (Guardian)

To enhance public safety through inclusive protection, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has trained 250 personnel in Basic Sign Language Proficiency Training.

NSCDC Commandant of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr. Olusola Odumosu, highlighted the importance of capacity building in developing a responsive security workforce.

He made this known during the graduation ceremony of the personnel, organised in partnership with Data Lead Africa and Deaf In Tech, yesterday in Abuja. Read more 

Nigeria’s inflation rate eases to 22.22% — NBS (Tribune)

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has reported that Nigeria’s headline inflation rate in June 2025 eased to 22.22 per cent relative to the May 2025 headline inflation rate of 22.97 per cent.

Looking at the movement, the June 2025 headline inflation rate showed a decrease of 0.76 per cent compared to the May 2025 headline inflation rate.

Data released by the NBS on Wednesday show that on a year-on-year basis, the headline inflation rate was 11.97 per cent lower than the 34.19 per cent rate recorded in June 2024. Read more 

Benue juice factory promises 400 more jobs (Sun)

The Benue Investment and Property Company (BIPC) said the juice factory it is constructing at the industrial layout in Makurdi will become operational on Tuesday, October 1, 2025.

The Group Managing Director (GMD), BIPC, Dr Raymond Asemakaha, disclosed this on Tuesday, July 15, while interacting with newsmen at the NUJ House in Makurdi.

Asemakaha said the equipment installation at the juice factory is 100 percent complete, adding that the company will engage 400 workers. Read more 

Court frees Fayose, says EFCC failed to link him to money laundering (Channels)

The Federal High Court in Lagos has discharged the former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, on charges of alleged money laundering and theft amounting to ₦6.9 billion.

Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke discharged the former governor after upholding his no-case submission filed to challenge his trial by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The court held that the EFCC had not been able to establish or link Fayose to the crime, neither was a prima facie case made against him to warrant further defence. Read more

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr Peter Obi has given reasons for his absence at the burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari, which held on Tuesday in Daura, Katsina State.

Obi’s absence at the high-profile event drew criticism from some quarters, especially given his status as a leading opposition figure and former Governor of Anambra State.

Beyoncé has reportedly been the victim of theft with a large quantity of her unreleased music stolen.

According to Atlanta news outlet WSB-TV, a car belonging to the singer’s choreographer and dancer was broken into on July 8.

The items stolen from the vehicle included a pair of suitcases confidential information as well as electronic goods such as laptops and AirPods. Read more

Mali’s former prime minister, Moussa Mara, has been called in again for questioning by the country’s Judicial Investigation Brigade.

Mara had already undergone several hours of interrogation on Tuesday but was allowed to return home.

Emma Watson has been banned from driving for six months at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court today.

The Harry Potter star, 35, didn’t appear in court herself but did admit to going 38mph in a 30mph zone.

She was caught speeding in Banbury, Oxford, on July 31 last year and is said to have had nine points on her licence at the time. Read more 

3 jailed over murder of Swedish hip-hop star in car park (BBC)

Three men in their 20s have been given long jail terms for their part in the fatal shooting of award-winning hip-hop artist C Gambino in Gothenburg last year.

C Gambino, whose real name was Karar Ramadan, had been named hip-hop artist of 2023 in Sweden’s Grammis music awards a month before he was murdered, in what prosecutors described as a ruthless and premeditated shooting.

All three men were convicted of aiding and abetting murder, and two of them were cleared of murder, as the Gothenburg court ruled it could not be established beyond reasonable doubt who had fired the fatal shots. Read more
