A Lagos doctor and Managing Director of Holyfill Hospital, Ayelaje Joseph, has been accused of allegedly removing a woman’s womb, without her consent, in his hospital, located in the Ikorodu area of Lagos.
The victim, Mrs. Okeafor Suzan, claimed she visited the hospital for fibroid removal but realized later that her womb was removed without her knowledge or permission.
However, in a swift response, Dr. Ayelaje Joseph said Mrs. Suzan gave consent for her womb to be removed, having had two children. Read more
Head of Service reveals detection of 1,618 fake civil servants (Sun)
Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoSF), Folasade Yemi-Esan, has disclosed that no fewer than 1618 fake civil servants have been discovered after the revalidation exercise carried out recently.
Mrs Esan however, explained that majority of them with fake and illegal appointment letters collecting salaries through the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) were from Parastatals not in the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
Disclosing that her office is working with the anti-corruption agencies like the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission. (ICPC), she noted that they have also instituted whistle blowers to unravel corrupt practices in the civil service. Read more
Fuel price rises 223.21% to N769.62 per litre – NBS (Vanguard)
The national average retail price paid by consumers for Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, otherwise known as petrol increased year-on-year, YoY, by 223.21 percent to N769.62 per litre in May 2024 from N238.11 per litre recorded in the corresponding period of 2023.
Furthermore, On a month-on-month, MoM basis, an increase of 9.75 percent was recorded from N701.24 per litre in April 2024.
The National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, disclosed this in its report, Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol) Price Watch for May 2024, which showed that Jigawa State topped the price chart at N937.50 per litre, followed by Ondo and Benue States with N882.67 per litre and N882.22 per litre, respectively. The Edo State Working Committee of the People Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday expelled former deputy governor of the state, Comrade Philip Shaibu and the South South Vice Chairman of the party, Dan Orbih at its meeting in Benin.
The expulsion of a former member of the House of Representatives, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama by the executive in Ward 2, Oredo Local Government on Tuesday, was also upheld by the State Working Committee.
The decision was taken by the nine-member SWC which had the chairman of the party, Tony Aziegbemi and seven others present, while Tony Anenih Jr. joined the meeting virtually. Read more

A menial labourer, Nkwegu Shadrach has narrated how he escaped death following a building collapse that occurred on Tuesday evening in the Abakaliki metropolis in Ebonyi State.
The three-storey building located within the premises of the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital Abakaliki I, Ebonyi State, collapsed when some construction workers were working inside it.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the Rivers State Caretaker Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tony Okocha, of instigating crisis in the state.

A man who may have been sexually assaulting a woman in Las Vegas was fatally stabbed after a group of citizens intervened to help the victim, authorities said Wednesday.
The incident occurred Tuesday afternoon in a shed southeast of downtown Las Vegas, the city’s police department said in a news release.
