Woman arraigned for masterminding attack on hotelier (Punch)
A 30-year-old woman, Joy Okonkwo, was on Monday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court sitting at Ogba for allegedly instigating area boys to attack and beat up a hotel owner.
Okonkwo is facing one count of breach of peace preferred against her by the police.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Kokoye Olusegun, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 26, 2023. Read more
Operation Flush: 88 robbery suspects arrested in Lagos, clampdown continues (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command said it had arrested no fewer than 88 suspected criminals 24 hours after the launch of Operation Flush.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported on Sunday that the state Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, disclosed this while speaking with journalists in Ikeja.
Owohunwa, on Thursday, launched Operation Flush to identify trouble spots, especially along construction areas, and flush out criminals, particularly traffic robbers and other miscreants. Read more
63-year-old woman falls sick after losing N6.2m to fraudsters (Punch)
A 63-year-old woman (name withheld) has fallen ill after losing N6.2m to fraudsters in Lagos.
The victim’s daughter, Anu Joseph, told PUNCH Metro that her traumatised mother was currently battling High Blood Pressure as a result of the incident.
Joseph said trouble started when she transferred an undisclosed amount of money to her mum on June 7, 2023, to address an urgent matter. Read more
Lagos hoodlums attack 2 men for criticising CDA leaders (Punch)
Two activists, Lai Brown and Shoddy Coker, have been injured after they were attacked by suspected hoodlums in the Alafia community, Ipaja, in the Agbado Oke-Odo Local Government Area of Lagos.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the activists who were known to be vocal about societal issues in the community and Lagos at large, were also usually criticising the leadership of their Community Development Association over the executives’ leadership style.
An eyewitness and resident in the area, Banji Dunsin, said one of the victims, Coker, was hit with a bottle on the head by the two hoodlums on July 22, 2023, while they were taking a stroll in the area. Read more
Family demands justice as NDLEA men kill 2 in Lagos (Punch)
The family of 22-year-old Gafaru Yusuf has been thrown into mourning after operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency allegedly shot him and Emmanuel Olomowewe dead in the Idioro area of Mushin, Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the NDLEA operatives stormed the community around 9.40pm on Wednesday to raid a drug den when they started shooting indiscriminately to scare hoodlums attempting to scuttle their plan in the community.

Police arraign 2 for stealing N6m wood (Punch)
The police on Thursday arraigned two men, William Offor and Syprien Azangbe, before a Lagos State Magistrates’ Court sitting at Ebute-Metta for allegedly stealing wood worth N6m.
Offor and Azangbe are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing preferred against them by the police.

The Lagos State Police Command, on Wednesday, arraigned 21-year-old Basit Ogunrombi before a magistrates’ court sitting at Ogba for allegedly stealing phones and money worth N397,000.
Ogunrombi is facing a three-count charge of breach of peace, conspiracy and stealing preferred against him by the police.

Apapa Customs uncover pistols concealed in cargo (Punch)
The Apapa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service said it seized two pistols hidden inside a container and other contraband worth N506bn in the last six months.
In a statement on Tuesday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Usman, said the command recorded 16 seizures with a duty paid value of N1.4bn within the period.
He said the seizures made included prohibited drugs, used tyres, rice, vegetable oil, and sundry items. Read more
TikTok user jailed 3 years for cyberstalking Eniola Badmus (Punch)
A female TikTok user, Nwakaego Okoye, has been sentenced to three years imprisonment for cyberstalking Nollywood actress, Eniola Badmus.
Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos gave the ruling on Wednesday.
The judge convicted Nwakaego after she pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of cyberstalking.
In a consideration that followed the convict’s remorse, Justice Oweibo however gave her an option of paying a fine of N150,000 in lieu of jail time. Read more
NDLEA arrests suspects supplying Lagos night clubs’ patrons drugs (Punch)
Men of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested a Lekki-based artiste’s manager and his accomplice, an Ikoyi businessman, both of whom were said to specialise in the distribution of illicit drugs to fun seekers at highbrow night clubs and lounges in the Lekki and other areas on the Island of Lagos State.
Their arrests followed an intelligence-led operation about a shipment of Colorado, a strong synthetic strain of cannabis coming from Los Angeles, United States.
Making the development known in a statement on Sunday, the spokesperson for the NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, noted that Oseni Babatunde (aka Papalampa) was the first to be arrested in his house at No. 3, Ope Daniel Taiwo Street, off Chisco Bus-Stop, in the Lekki area of the state, when the consignment arrived on Sunday, July 23. Police arrest 3 suspects, recover firearms, hard drugs in Lagos (Guardian)
The Police have arrested three suspects after its officers stormed the slums in the Whitesand area of Orile Iganmu in Lagos.
Lagos Police command spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin in a Tweet on Wednesday said the arrest was carried out after actionable intelligence was gathered.
Among the items recovered from the suspects are three locally fabricated firearms, thirteen live cartridges and hard drugs. Read more
Interpol declares Ese Cynthia Daniel wanted over alleged ₦750m fraud (Guardian)
International Police (Interpol) has declared a Nigerian businesswoman, Ese Cynthia Daniel, wanted over an alleged ₦750 million fraud.
This is stated in an INTERPOL bulletin titled CR: 3000X/ICPO/ADM/LD/VCP/Vol. 4/93, which states that an arrest warrant has been issued by the Lagos State magistrate court.
“The above-named person is hereby declared wanted by the Nigeria Police Force,” the bulletin reads. Read more
Lagos Police arrest land grabber, cultist (ThisDay)
The Lagos State Police Command has revealed that it arrested two criminal suspects-a cultist and land grabber-yesterday at the Alagbado area of the state.
The zonal Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Hauwa Idris Adamu, said: “On July 17, 2023, an intelligence report was received by the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) of the Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos, Ari Mohammed Ali, on some criminals who deal in hard drugs, involved in cultism, and receiving stolen property, by concern citizens.
“Based on the information and intelligence received by the AIG, a team of detectives from the Zonal Anti-kidnapping Unit immediately swung into action with the aid of modern technology, tracked and arrested two suspects, Falana Olamilekan, 40, and Aro Tomiwa, 41, in their hideout at Anikanle Kola Alagbado axis of Lagos State.
