Woman, 32, docked over alleged N2.9b fraud (Guardian)
A 32-year-old woman, Ijeoma Iwegue, on Wednesday appeared before a Sabo-Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for alleged transfer of N2.9 billion.
Iwegue, whose residential address was not given in court, pleaded not guilty to a three-count charge bordering on fraudulent transfer.
The Prosecuting Counsel, A. O Nwabueze, told the court that Iwegue and one other still at large committed the offences on Feb. 5 and Feb. 7 at Plot 8, Providence Street, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos. Read more

The trial of Afrobeat musician, Seun Anikulapo Kuti, has been adjourned till July 3, 2023.
Seun on Tuesday night regained his freedom after spending eight days in Police detention.
The youngest son of Afrobeat legend, Fela Kuti was arrested on Monday, May 15 for allegedly assaulting a police operative on Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.
Protesters had earlier on Tuesday, May 23 demanded his immediate release within 24 hours. Read more

Afrobeat musician, Oluseun Anikulapo Kuti, popularly known as Seun Kuti, on Tuesday night regained his freedom after spending eight days in Police detention.
“Just to announce that @RealSeunKuti has been released from @PoliceNG detention in Lagos. Hasta la victoria siempre!,” the Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore tweeted while accompanying it with a video of Seun rejoicing with his family.

Man bags jail term for stealing phone (Punch)
A 28-year-old man, Ibukun Adenekan, was on Tuesday sentenced to two months imprisonment for breaking into the residence of one Nicholas Adarerhi in the Mushin area of Lagos State and stealing an iPhone valued at N400,000.
The defendant was arraigned on February 22, 2023 by the Lagos State Police Command before Magistrate A.O. Salawu on four counts of stealing.
The prosecutor, Godwin Oriabure, told the court that Adenekan broke into Adarerhi’s compound at No. 43, Isaac John Street, Mushin, around 12.35am and stole his phone while he was bathing. Read more
Cleaner arraigned for stealing laptop (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command on Monday arraigned a cleaner at the Yaba College of Technology, Kemi Salawu, for allegedly stealing an HP laptop valued at N633,700.
The 54-year-old woman was arraigned before the Yaba Magistrates’ Court presided over by Magistrate O.Y. Adefope on one count of theft.
The laptop, belonging to one of her bosses, Femi Faduru, was said to have been declared missing after she cleaned his office and left. Read more
Man in court for possessing 7 locally-made pistols (Punch)
An Ogba Magistrates’ Court sitting in the Ikeja area of Lagos State on Friday remanded a man, Kamilu Mohammed, in the Kirikiri Custodial Centre for allegedly possessing guns and other weapons, which he used to rob unsuspecting members of the public of their belongings in the Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The police prosecutor, Kehinde Ajayi, told the court that the defendant had in his possession seven locally-made pistols and 63 live cartridges and when accosted by the police, he was unable to give a satisfactory response.
His accomplices were said to be currently at large. Read more
2 drug traffickers jailed in Lagos (Punch)
The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has convicted and sentenced two drug traffickers, Onyeze Obiora and Iyabode Omojomolo, to eight years imprisonment.
Delivering his judgment on Friday, Justice Daniel Osiagor convicted and sentenced Obiora to three years imprisonment for trafficking 300 grams of Cocaine while Omojomolo was convicted and given five years jail term for trafficking 900 grams of Flunitrazepam, a psychotropic substance, by Justice Nicholas Oweibo.
The two convicts were handed down the jail term on Friday after they both pleaded guilty to a separate count charge preferred against them by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency. Read more
NDLEA arrests baron in Lagos hotel over N567m seized drug (Punch)
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Thursday arrested a drug baron, Charles Ezeh, following the recovery of a consignment of methamphetamine weighing 30.10kg with a street value of N567m.
The illicit drug consignment concealed in powdered custard containers as part of a consolidated cargo going to London, United Kingdom, was intercepted at the Skyway Aviation Handling Company Plc export shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja Lagos, on Tuesday

NDLEA intercepts UK-bound meth worth N.5b, arrests suspect (Punch)
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have intercepted a large consignment of methamphetamine concealed in powdered custard containers as part of a consolidated cargo going to London, United Kingdom at the SAHCO export shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja Lagos.
The illicit drug consignment weighing 30.10 kilograms with a street value of N567 million, according to a statement posted by the NDLEA on its official Twitter page Sunday morning, was detected and seized by operatives at the airport on Tuesday 16th May.
This was swiftly followed by a series of follow-up operations that led to the arrest of a freight agent, Nwobodo Chidiebere; a female suspect, Chioma Lucy Akuta and ultimately the drug lord behind the shipment, Charles Chinedu Ezeh, who was arrested at Sotel Suites, Amuwo Odofin, Lagos on Thursday 18″ May. Pregnant woman stabs domestic worker over bag in Lagos (Punch)
A yet-to-be-identified woman has allegedly stabbed her domestic worker, Chinasa Anemem, after discovering that she disobeyed her directives to wash a bag at their residence around Simeon Oniyimofe Street, in the Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The PUNCH gathered that after perpetrating the crime, the woman abandoned Anemem, who was bleeding profusely at home.
A yet-to-be-identified neighbour, who said the woman was fond of subjecting the domestic worker to different forms of inhumane treatment, said he saw Anemem writhing in pain and engaged her. Read more
Islamic teacher defiles 6-year-old female pupil (Punch)
A 24-year-old Islamic teacher, Mosediq Toheeb, was on Wednesday remanded by a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court for sexually assaulting a six-year-old pupil at a Quranic school.
The court presided over by Magistrate Patrick Nwaka, remanded the defendant who was arraigned on two counts of sexual violation preferred against him by the state police command.
The police prosecutor, Thomas Nurudeen, told the court that the incident happened on May 7, 2023, at the University of Lagos Central Mosque. Read more
Cultists kill 1 at Ladipo (Nation)
There was unrest at the Ladipo Spare Markets, Oshodi, Lagos yesterday following the killing of a yet-to-be-identified man by suspected cultists.
A source told The Nation that five suspects trailed the victim with a tricycle to the spot where he was shot.
The eyewitness said: “Around 10am, some guys alighted from a Keke NAPEP (tricycle) and surrounded a guy. He tried to escape but he was gunned down, they were about five in number. Read more
NAPTIP arraigns 2 alleged prostitution promoters (Nation)
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has brought two women, Blessing Lucky and Joyce Okeke, before the Federal High Court in Lagos for allegedly being part of a foreign prostitution cartel.
The women, also known as Mary Frank and Eva, were arraigned before Justice Ayokunle Faji on a seven-count charge.
They were accused of conspiracy, promoting prostitution and buying human beings to be used as prostitutes. Read more
Disquiet in Lagos community over attack by suspected land grabbers (Nation)
Aggrieved residents of Idioyin-Imoke community in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area of Lagos State penultimate Tuesday staged a protest following an attack by hoodlums suspected to be land grabbers earlier in the day.
They were said to have attacked other residents and injured several people, resulting in a pandemonium.
The protesters who carried placards with various save-our-soul messages chanted solidarity songs as they converged on the village square shortly after the hoodlums retreated. Read more
