Danish husband, principal suspect in wife, daughter’s murder – Police (Punch)
A police inspector, Babashola Afolayan, on Monday, explained to a Lagos State High Court in Igbosere that a Danish national, Peter Nielsen, was the principal suspect in the killing of his Nigerian wife, Zainab, and three-year-old daughter, Petra.
Punch Metro had reported that Nielsen, 53, allegedly murdered Zainab and Petra at the family’s residence at the Ocean Parade, Banana Island, Lagos, on April 5, 2018.
Zainab’s younger sister had reported to the facility manager of the estate that Zainab was being assaulted by Nielsen. Read more
Woman allegedly kills cleric for attempted rape (Nation)
A woman, Gift Daniel, who allegedly killed a cleric for attempting to rape her, was Thursday brought before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
According to the Police, Daniel, 25, of No. 1, Alhaji Aleke Street, Bariga, Lagos, stabbed Taofeek Olumoro, 52, to death with a kitchen knife.
The defendant was arraigned before Mrs. A. Kusanu on a one-count charge of murder. Read more
Man held for suspected thief’s death (Nation)
A Yaba Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded a 28-year-old man, Kazeem Aleshinloye, at Kirikiri Maximum Prisons following his arraignment for allegedly killing a man accused of stealing.
Chief Magistrate Oluwatoyin Oghere declined to take the defendant’s plea and ordered that the case file be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.
Prosecuting Sergeant Modupe Olaluwoye said the accused committed the offence with others at large on December 22, last year, at 4:30am, at CAC Street, Powerline, Ikorodu, Lagos. Read more
Two men docked for allegedly beating up IKEDC officials (Punch)
Two men who allegedly beat up two Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company officials for disconnecting their electricity supply were on Thursday arraigned at a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The police charged Godwin Owen, 42, and Valentine Brown; 38, with two counts of breach of peace and assault occasioning harm.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. Read more
Woman charged with placing fake job vacancy posters (Nation)
A 27-year-old woman, Ugochi Chinagorom, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court for allegedly placing fraudulent job vacancy posters at strategic locations in Gbagada, Lagos, with intent to deceive.
Chinagorom was charged before Magistrate E. Kubeinje with intent to obtain money under false pretence.
Prosecuting Inspector Lucky Ihiehie said Dele Akinseleyin, a leader of Diya Street Vigilance Group, Ifako, Gbagada, reported the case at Ifako Police Station. Read more
Two conductors found with missing person’s phone (Nation)
Two bus conductors, Ojo Mudasiru and Ibrahim Yusuf, were on Wednesday arraigned at a Yaba Magistrates’ Court for alleged possession of a missing person’s phone.
Mudasiru, 27, and Yusuf, 28, pleaded not guilty.
Prosecuting Sergeant Modupe Olaluwoye said the defendants committed the offence on February 3, at 3am, on Morocco Road, Shomolu, Lagos. Read more
Driver arrested for stealing Evans’ N10.5m trailers (Punch)
A 27-year-old commercial bus driver, Mashudu Rabiu, has been arraigned before an Ogba Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing three trailers recovered by the police from a suspected kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, aka Evans.
The defendant, whose residential address was not provided, is facing two counts of conspiracy and stealing.
According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Raphael Donny, the defendant allegedly conspired with others still at large to steal the trailers valued at N10.5m, which were recovered by the police from the suspected kidnap kingpin, whose case is already in court. Read more
Two labourers face N285,000 theft charge (Nation)
Two labourers, who allegedly stole N285,000 from a shop, were on Wednesday charged before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court.
Mohammed Awal, 24, and Shefiu Garuba, 21, allegedly committed the offence in connivance with others at large on February 2, on Moshood Abiola Way, Ijora-Badia, Lagos.
They pleaded not guilty. Read more
