The woman who was set ablaze in an apartment in Ikorodu by her husband was preparing for the burial of her own mother, according to her friend.
The woman, identified as Ebere, succumbed to the severe burns she sustained from the fire incident barely a week later.
Ebere’s friend, SisyCaro Omojevwe Kodo, disclosed this in a tribute she paid her departed friend in a Facebook post.
According to her, Ebere’s husband was a jealous lover, who policed her movement and forbade her to use social media. Read more
Unilag boosts security architectures on campus, renovates police station on Lagoon front (Tribune)
As a way of further enhancing the security architectures on campus and its neighbouring communities, the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Akoka, on Tuesday, handed over the Marine Police Post on the Lagoon front after renovation back to the Lagos State Police Command for full operations.
The police post which was built in 1991 had been before now operating in a skeletal manner.
The facility was renovated by the university as a special intervention project through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).
Inaugurating the police post on Tuesday, the Vice-Chancellor of UNILAG, Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, said the sole aim of renovating the marine police post was to boost the security architectures not only on campus but also in the entire neighbouring communities of the university including Iwaya, Makoko and Oworonsoki. Ex-British and Commonwealth boxing champion turned Apostle for Christ, Peter Oboh, has said that The Synagogue Church of All Nations must not be allowed to die, lamenting that it was very sad and very sorrowful in the eyes of God and man for the church to to be shut for political reasons just under five months after the passing of the Founder, Prophet T. B. Joshua.

Mentoring the young girls especially in Senior Secondary public schools, was the centre of WIMBIZ’s Big Sisters Program, BSP, organized in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the organization.
The programme, which held simultaneously across various parts of the country including Lagos, Bonny, Abuja, Ibadan, Port Harcourt and Uyo to mentor young girls in various classes beginning with Goal Setting and Planning, Interpersonal Relationships, Building Confidence, Creating Budgets, Identifying Careers and Entrepreneurial Paths, as well as Financial Literacy, Personal Hygiene and Handling Peer Pressure among others.

Nigeria has 400 abandoned water projects – minister (Leadership)
Minister of water resources, Engr Suleiman Adamu, said that Nigeria has over 400 abandoned water projects across the country.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO) report of 2013, access to water supply in Nigeria was 67 per cent and access to sanitation facilities was 41 per cent.
An estimated 100 million Nigerians still lack basic sanitation facilities and 63 million do not have access to improved sources of drinking water.
But the minister of water resources, while defending the ministry’s 2022 budget, said the abandoned water projects are mostly dams and were cited where it is impossible to be constructed. Read more

Police recover body of Rivers monarch kidnapped in 2019, family alleges communal rift (Punch)
The Rivers State Police Command said it has recovered the decomposing body of the traditional ruler of Luwa Community in Khana Local Government Area of the state, Chief Robert Loolo, who was kidnapped and left to die in a forest.
Loolo was kidnapped in June 2019 in his palace.
The Divisional Police Officer in charge of the Bori Division, Bako Angbashim, led a team to a creek linking Luwa, Bera and Bakani communities in Ogoni land where the body was found tied to a stick.
Angbashim said, “Two years back, the paramount ruler of Luwa community was kidnapped.
“We have been searching for him and all efforts to trace him proved abortive. But God helped us today, we were able to locate where they tied him in the creek. Read more

The widow of Kobe Bryant has won another legal battle in her lawsuit against Los Angeles County, this time with a court order that forces the county sheriff and fire chief to answer questions under oath about photos of her dead husband and daughter.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Charles Eick granted Vanessa Bryant’s request to compel the pretrial deposition testimony of L.A. County Sheriff Alex Villanueva and County Fire Chief Daryl Osby, two of the top public safety officials in the nation’s most populous county.
Bryant is suing the county for invasion of privacy and negligence, claiming that county sheriff’s and fire department employees improperly shared photos of human remains from a helicopter crash that killed the NBA legend, their daughter and seven others in January 2020. Read more

Sudan’s coup leader, Gen Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, has said the military seized power on Monday to prevent “civil war”.
He added that the deposed Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok was being kept at the general’s house “for his own safety”, but has now returned home.
Protests are continuing for a second day in the capital, Khartoum, with roads, bridges and shops closed. Phone and internet lines are also disrupted.

“Her Majesty has regretfully decided that she will no longer travel to Glasgow” for a November 1 reception, the palace said in a statement, adding that she “will deliver an address to the assembled delegates via a recorded video message.”
The queen worked a busy schedule in early October, but canceled a visit to Northern Ireland last week on medical advice.

Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed when a prop gun handled by actor Alec Baldwin went off last Thursday, sparking an investigation into the tragedy.
An inventory list of items seized as part of a search warrant issued Friday shows investigators with the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office also collected three black revolvers and 14 swabs of “suspected blood.”
“Loose ammo and boxes” from a tray, several boxes of ammo, and a “fanny pack w/ammo” were among the items listed on the inventory list, though the document doesn’t specify the brand or type of bullets. Read more

A former close aide to Hillary Clinton has reportedly written in a new memoir how she was sexually assaulted by a US senator.
