Frontline politician and former presidential candidate, Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has raised fresh concerns over the growing threat of plastic pollution, describing it as a “silent but dangerous invader” of homes, oceans, and even the global food chain.

In a goodwill message to mark this year’s World Environment Day, personally signed by him, Olawepo-Hashim aligned with the theme of the event, “Plastic Pollution and What We Can Do to Tackle It,” noting that it serves as a call to action for individuals, communities, and governments alike.

“We are reminded of our shared responsibility to protect the planet that sustains us all,” he stated.

He noted that plastic waste posed a grave threat to public health, wildlife, and the delicate balance of ecosystems, warning that Nigeria is not insulated from the dangers.

“From clogged drainage systems in our cities to polluted waterways in our rural communities, the evidence of plastic pollution is everywhere,” he said. (Guardian)
