A security man and a driver on Tuesday appeared before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, on charges of stealing and receiving N2.9 million property.
The security man, Promise Ogbaje, 23, who works at Ogudu GRA, is standing trial for conspiracy and stealing, while the driver, Michael Bode, 35, who resides on Babalola Street, Ota, Ogun State, is charged with conspiracy and receiving stolen property.
The duo, however, pleaded not guilty.
According to the prosecutor, Insp Donjour Perezi, the complainant, Mrs Naomi Ifeanyi, discovered from a closed circuit television camera footage that the security man had been stealing from her.
He said that the security man had stolen a generator battery, four expired vehicle batteries and 720 litres of fuel, among other valuables, from Ifeanyi.
He said that Ogbaje conspired with Bode, who received 720 litres of fuel.
Perezi said that the defendants committed the offences on May 13 at 2.30 p.m., on Saludeen Akano Street, Ogudu GRA.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 287, 328 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.Section 328 stipulates 14 years’ imprisonment for anyone convicted of receiving stolen property.
The Magistrate, Mrs M.O. Tanimola, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N300,000 each, with two sureties in like sum.
Tanimola adjourned the case until July 12 for mention. (NAN)
