Jeff Bridges was ‘close to dying’ after getting COVID while on chemo (Variety)
Jeff Bridges revealed to People magazine that he was “pretty close to dying” after contracting COVID while on chemotherapy for cancer. It didn’t hurt or anything,” the actor said.
To fight the cancer, Bridges almost immediately started chemotherapy by infusion and then later oral chemotherapy. The chemo proved successful prior to the COVID diagnosis.
“They got a cocktail that worked, and oh man it worked fast,” Bridges said. “That thing just imploded,”
Bridges’ health nosedived in January 2021 when he contracted COVID. Because his chemotherapy treatments had severely weakened his immune system, Bridges’ body had no line of defense against the coronavirus. Read more

Bob Dylan rerecords Blowin’ in the Wind for Christie’s auction (Guardian)
Bob Dylan has rerecorded his classic protest song Blowin’ in the Wind for the first time since it was tracked in July 1962. The new version is the debut release for Ionic Original, a new analogue format developed by Dylan’s long-term collaborator T Bone Burnett.
It is also highly exclusive: Ionic will produce one-of-a-kind aluminium discs painted with lacquer that features “a spiral etched into it by music”. Only one copy of the Dylan recording will be released, and is set to be auctioned by Christie’s in London on 7 July. It is expected to sell for between £600,000 and £1m.
Dylan recorded the new version of Blowin’ in the Wind last year, produced by Burnett. “Sixty years after Bob first wrote and recorded Blowin’ in the Wind, he is giving us a new recording of his song,” Burnett said in a press release. “One that is both deeply relevant for our times and resonant with decades of the artist’s life and experience.”
Blowin’ in the Wind was released on Dylan’s second studio album, The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan, in May 1963. He had begun playing it a year earlier in Greenwich Village venues and first published the lyrics in Pete Seeger’s Broadside magazine, which was dedicated to folk and topical songs. Read more

NBBF stands by Kida’s mandate, denounces Interim Management Committee(Guardian)

Real Madrid name Champions League final squad to face Liverpool with Gareth Bale included (Mirror)
Gareth Bale has been included in Real Madrid’s squad to face Liverpool in the Champions League final in what will be his final game for the club.
The Welshman is leaving Real Madrid at the end of the season upon the expiration of his contract, bringing an end to his nine-year stay in the Spanish capital. Ironically, his greatest moment for the club arguably came four years ago – when he netted twice as the Spanish giants defeated the Reds 3-1 in the Champions League final.
There are no notable absentees from Real Madrid’s squad for the final, with the club having a clean bill of health with no suspensions. Other players involved who look set to leave this summer include club captain Marcelo, Isco, Luka Jovic and Mariano Diaz.
Bale has recently hit out at Spanish media outlet Marca as being “disgusting” for comparing him to a parasite over claims he is sucking money out of the Spanish giants. Bale concluded a rant against the reports by stating: “We all know who the real parasite is!” The forward had faced fresh criticism from the Madrid media after his starring role for Wales in their playoff win over Austria in March. Arsenal ‘close to signing’ Alvaro Morata as shock £26m transfer offer reportedly made (Football London)
Arsenal are close to signing former Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata if reports in Spain are to be believed.
The north Londoners are in the market for a centre-forward after allowing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to join Barcelona during the January transfer window, whilst Alexandre Lacazette is also set to leave when his contract expires in just over four weeks. football.london understands that Gabriel Jesus and Tammy Abraham are two names on the club’s shortlist of profiles, and technical director Edu has held talks with Jesus’ representatives in recent times.
However, Spanish outlet Sport have now reported that the Gunners are, in fact, pursuing Atletico Madrid’s Morata. Their report claims that Arsenal have lodged an offer of €30million (£26million) for the former Blues’ forward, and they are said to be ‘very close’ to securing his services.
AS have also reported that Mikel Arteta’s side are interested in the Spanish international. He spent last season on loan with Serie A outfit Juventus. It is so far unclear how concrete this alleged interest is but a move for Morata seems unlikely given his below-par goalscoring record. Read more
