Alex Iwobi extends contract with Arsenal

Alex Iwobi, Nigerian Arsenal midfielder has signed a four-year contract extension with the club until 2023.

The Premier League club announced Friday.

The 22-year-old who has been with the Gunners since he was nine years old, came through the clubโ€™s Hale End Academy, breaking into the first team in 2015.

Emery, the club’s new manager said, “I’m very pleased Alex has signed a new contract with us.”

“He is a great example of a player who can succeed from the Academy through hard work and I look forward to working with him and our other talented young players in the squad,” he said.

Iwobi has made 98 appearances for the Gunners with nine goals.

โ€œItโ€™s always been my childhood dream to represent Arsenal, from young,โ€ he told Arsenalโ€™s official website.

โ€œTo get an extended contract is an amazing feeling and I hope Iโ€™m doing the Arsenal family proud as well as my family.โ€

Arsenalโ€™s new manager is preparing the Gunners for a match against Lazio which rounds off their pre-season friendly.

The club begins their Premier League campaign against last season champions, Manchester City at the Emirates on August 12.
