Bright Michael Ude breaks Pinkidebbie’s record, determined to go 50 more hours

Bright Michael Ude, who has been attempting to break the world record in the Longest Dance Marathon by an Individual category and set a new one has hit a milestone. Early on Thursday morning at Maryland Mall he broke the record of fellow Nigerian and dancer Debbie Odumewu a.k.a. Pinkidebbie, who only last year danced nonstop for 135 hours at The Palms in Lekki to get there.

When thisislagos.ng got to the venue he has occupied since Friday, March 9 on Thursday evening, Ude was visibly weak but eager to continue until Saturday when he would have attained the 193-hour landmark he has set for himself.

As at 5.35pm on Thursday, which is his seventh day on the project, he had danced for 143 hours taking only 20-minute breaks after every four hour session of dance.

Our crew congratulated him and asked if he would stop now but a resounding no was the reply.

“I will continue to dance until Saturday when I will reach the target that I set for myself,” Ude said.

He went on to eat a bowl of rice and make some calls before disappearing for what one of his team members said was to continue making calls.

While he was out, an excited group of four girls came by to enquire after him, refusing to move an inch until he was back. They broke into dance when he returned.

Thisislagos.ng noticed that the break that evening was longer than usual and asked Ude why this was the case. His answer was that he had accumulated some break time previously and was only taking advantage of the said time.

Ude had earlier told thisislagos.ng that the worst was over, which was in the early stages of the venture when sleep almost overwhelmed and consequently led to his hallucinating.
